Now that Ninja Gaiden 4 is in the hands of players, many will likely be looking to find out how it compares to previous games in the series. One of the key elements players will be wondering about is Yakumo's arsenal of weapons, and if he has access to a wide range of tools to destroy human and fiend enemies alike. While the weapons themselves provide an amazing amount of diversity in gameplay, NG4's arsenal differs from recent Ninja Gaiden games. Players who experienced the Ninja Gaiden 2 Black remaster will probably expect an extended weapon collection. In this guide, we'll provide the complete list of all weapons in Ninja Gaiden 4, and reveal when they will be unlocked for use.

All Weapons in Ninja Gaiden 4 (& How to Unlock Them)
Weapons in NG4, Explained:
Unlike recent entries in the Ninja Gaiden series, exploration plays no role in unlocking weapons in Ninja Gaiden 4. Players hoping to scour through each chapter, looking for that new weapon hanging on a wall, or placed at a shrine, will unfortunately be disappointed. However, the work Platinum Games has done on Yakumo's existing arsenal makes up for it in a major way.
In Ninja Gaiden 4, the weapons you unlock are built into key moments in the story. This means that you will gain new weapons only at key scripted moments. While some fans may think this will limit the combat possibilities in Ninja Gaiden 4, in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. While it's true that there are fewer weapons overall – Yakumo has access to five main weapons – the ability to switch between weapons instantly proves to be an incredible boon to the flow and overall feel of combat.
As you play through NG4, you'll discover that each weapon has unique strengths. Often, you will want to switch weapons multiple times in a single encounter, especially if you are going for the upper echelons of NG4's grading system. Each weapon has its own unique list of skills, allowing you to custom tailor your builds based on your favorite weapons. Somehow, Platinum has made fewer weapon choices feel like a massive increase in combat options.
Yakumo's Weapon List:
Yakumo has access to five main weapons, each of which unlocks at specific story points. They are as follows:
- Takeminakata – Twin Blade/Tachi: Unlocked at the start of the game. Yakumo's main weapon.
- Yatousen – Rapier/Lance: The second weapon Yakumo unlocks. It is found holding the first Dark Dragon seal in place. You'll collect it at the end of Chapter 3, and gain access to it at the start of Chapter 4.
- Magatsuhi – Staff/Hammer: The third addition to Yakumo's arsenal. Removed from the seal at the end of Chapter 7, available to use at the start of Chapter 8.
- Kage-Hiruko – Assassin's Tools/Mechanical Arms: This will be the final addition to Yakumo's main arsenal, which are assigned to each button on the D-Pad. This will be removed from the seal at the end of Chapter 10, and available for use at the start of Chapter 11.
- Dark Dragon Sword – Sword of Evil: This will be the true final weapon, but Yakumo will only have access to it in Chapter 19, Ninja Gaiden 4 's final chapter. You'll need to defeat a very important enemy early in the chapter to gain access to this weapon, which will take you through the end of the game.

The Best Ninja Gaiden Games, Ranked
From 1989's Ninja Gaiden to 2025's Ninja Gaiden 4, here are the best games in Team Ninja's legendary franchise.
Second Playable Character's Weapon:
Once you reach Chapter 14 in NG4, you'll stop playing as Yakumo, and start playing as Ryu Hayabusa through the end of Chapter 18. Ryu only has access to his trusty Dragon Sword. Fans of the series will know this katana well. Instead of alternate weapons being assigned to the D-Pad, Ryu will instead have his various Ninpo abilities.
This marks all the weapons currently available in Ninja Gaiden 4. Should any new weapons be added in subsequent DLC or updates, we will add them to this list immediately.
