After plenty of rumors, Nintendo has officially confirmed an upcoming Nintendo Direct showcase scheduled for September 12, 2025 at 9 a.m. ET, and I personally couldn't be more excited. Nintendo has been knocking it out of the park this year with hits like Donkey Kong Bananza, Mario Kart World, and the Switch 2 console in general, so I can't wait to see what the developer comes up with next. We're not likely to know what this particular Nintendo Direct will be showing off, but it is happening just a day before Mario's 40th anniversary. As such, at least one thing Mario-related is expected to make an appearance.
Apart from that, there are plenty of upcoming Nintendo games to anticipate that may very well show themselves in some form during this month's Nintendo Direct, one of which has even been in the making for over 8 years. Of course, none of those are confirmed for the showcase, though its 60-minute runtime leaves plenty of room for that to happen. At the very least, however, I am just glad I won't have to think about "that" game anymore. Any gamer with an ear even remotely close to the ground knows which title I'm referring to — Hollow Knight: Silksong, of course.
For Once, Nintendo's Next Direct Won't Be About Hollow Knight: Silksong
No Longer Waiting for More Hollow Knight: Silksong News
Originally announced in 2019 via trailer and not released until just recently, Hollow Knight: Silksong became something of a meme over time, with its existence even being brought into question due to how long it took to come to fruition. It was even funnier, then, when Team Cherry divulged that the reason it had taken so long to develop Silksong is not because it was having trouble, but because the team was having too much fun developing the game. I personally never gave up on it, but I did get sucked into basically expecting news about it from every Nintendo Direct between its announcement and release.
Especially as Team Cherry periodically came out and said that work on the game was still ongoing, reassuring everyone that the game did indeed exist, it was hard not to hope for an actual look at the game with every passing Nintendo Direct. Unfortunately, it was the same story every time, with nothing new about Hollow Knight: Silksong, despite any rumors or leaks that suggested there could be something. However, that's finally behind us, with the indie game now dominating 2025 and currently riding a high as the best-rated game of all time. Now, it's back to business as usual, though I'll still be playing Hollow Knight: Silksong for the foreseeable future.
Nintendo's September 2025 Direct Has Me Thinking About Other Games
With Hollow Knight: Silksong now out of the way, there are other games to think about for this month's Nintendo Direct. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is one that I've been waiting for even longer than I waited for Silksong, as I not only grew up with the series, but its most recent entry is now over 18 years old. Thankfully, given its 2025 release window, it's likely we'll get to see more of it during this Nintendo Direct, and potentially even get a firm launch date.
Then there's Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which I'm still skeptical about, but that's precisely why I would love to see more of it. So far, it has failed to grab me in a way that guarantees I'll be playing it, despite my long history with Pokemon. I did thoroughly enjoy Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but Z-A just feels off for some reason. That being said, Nintendo has already proven itself this year, to an extent that I really didn't expect, so maybe Pokemon Legends: Z-A will be just as surprising.
In addition to those big titles, my passion for all things Legend of Zelda has me champing at the bit for more news on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. That is one series I've been surprised by, and I can only see the next installment being even better on the Switch 2. There's plenty more where that came from, though, and now that Hollow Knight: Silksong finally arrived, I can actually think about the more.
