Hours before Mario Day kicked off, a new Nintendo Music update added over 40 tracks from the NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3 to the service. Originally released in October 1988 in Japan, Super Mario Bros. 3 is the fourth game in the Super Mario franchise, and one of the NES' best-selling games. Super Mario Bros. 3 introduced new power-ups like the Tanuki and Frog Suits, along with the Koopalings as antagonists alongside Bowser. Super Mario Bros. 3 also introduced auto-scrolling levels like Bowser's airship, slopes that increased Mario's running speed, and a world map players used to navigate Mario between levels. Given how it changed the series, Super Mario Bros. 3 is considered one of the most influential games to debut on the NES.

Most tracks from Super Mario Bros. 3 are supported by Nintendo Music's Extended Play feature, which gives listeners the option to play tracks in increments of 15, 30, or 60 minutes. An active Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to access Nintendo Music, as the service is considered a free perk of the former. Usually, Nintendo Music is updated each week with music from Nintendo's first-party game catalog.
The release of Super Mario Bros. 3 came just hours before Mario Day began. This year's event is highlighted by $20 discounts on various Switch titles like Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Odyssey now until Saturday, March 15. Additionally, the Nintendo Sound Clock Alarmo is now available at retailers like Walmart for $99, which no longer requires a Nintendo Switch Online subscription following a February 14 update.
Super Mario Bros. 3 now joins other titles like Super Mario World and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the growing Nintendo Music app. Which soundtracks Nintendo will add in future updates remains to be seen.
