Summary
- Nintendo of America updated its headquarters sign with new red and white colors to match current branding trends.
- The sign change reflects a new era for Nintendo as it prepares for the release of its successor console to the Switch.
- Nintendo is also planning to open a new official store in San Francisco in 2025, following the success of its New York location.
Nintendo of America has re-painted its sign. Nintendo has a number of offices located throughout the world, with its main Japanese headquarters stationed in Kyoto, Japan, since 1889. Nintendo has offices in the United States as well, with its main Nintendo of America branch located in Redmond, Washington, with two separate offices in San Francisco, California, and New York City.
The Nintendo of America division was first founded in 1980, when late Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi appointed his son-in-law Minoru Arakawa as president, with Yoko Yamauchi, wife of Arakawa and daughter of Yamauchi, as the first employee. Following a few different location tests during the arcade coin-op boom and its initial failings with Radar Scope, a young Miyamoto was then brought in to help turn their overstock of Radar Scope cabinets into something different - Donkey Kong. With Donkey Kong's smash success, it helped Nintendo establish its presence and allowed Arakawa to buy land in Redmond in July 1982, where the building still stands today. The longstanding building has made a small change recently, sporting some new colors.
Leaker Teases New Project From Nintendo and Xenoblade Developers
A notable and reliable Nintendo insider leaks the codename of a new project from Xenoblade Chronicles developer, Monolith Soft.
Spotted by eagle-eyed fans on social media, the American headquarters has changed its plain silver and gray sign to something more evocative of Nintendo's current logo. Posted on Twitter by user Caleb_Bravo99, the silver sign has been repainted to be red, the text and logo are now white, and a gray part of the sign has been painted black. This change makes the sign look more modern, along with bringing it closer to Nintendo's current and most recognizable branding, as trailers and other promotional material from Nintendo feature a white logo on a red background. A pair of comparison photos were also shared online for fans to see the differences.
Nintendo of America's New and Old HQ Sign
Nintendo of America's change from its plain grayscale signage to the more colorful red and white colors likely reflects a new era for the company, considering how Nintendo is gearing up for its Switch successor console. The new colors give the headquarters a more modern look, compared to the old ones.
Nintendo also has plans to open a new official store in San Francisco, which will be opening sometime in 2025, and will be the second official location of a Nintendo Store in the US, accompanying the New York Nintendo location. This new store is located in the same location as its second American office, which is also in San Francisco. An opening date for this store location will be shared in the future.
