  • An industry leaker reveals that there will be no new details on Nintendo Switch 2 this month, despite industry hype for a September announcement.
  • Instead, Nintendo is seemingly prioritizing stock to avoid launch shortages, but production won't start until the official announcement.
  • With uncertainty about a Switch 2 release window and launch titles, fans are hopeful for the potential of an original IP and mascot to debut with console.

The Nintendo Switch 2 hype is currently targeting an announcement window, but a respected video games leaker has predicted there won’t be any new details on the handheld this month. Industry insiders were previously discussing a potential announcement for the Switch successor arriving in September. However, it’s looking more likely that information will be kept back by the Japanese titan until later in the year.

An analyst recently forecasted the Nintendo Switch 2’s release window and discussed the handheld’s potential price range, since Nintendo confirmed the successor console would be announced before the end of its fiscal year. It was also noted that the publisher would be prioritizing sizable stock to combat launch shortages, but Nintendo is wary of starting production until the console is officially announced to minimize leaks.

Popular video games leaker billbil-kun predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement would not be happening in September, in response to industry insiders teasing “something” would be said this month. Instead, the leaker proposed Nintendo would announce a new Nintendo Switch OLED bundle, containing a Super Mario Bros. Wonder download code and a three-month subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Twitter users were visibly disappointed to hear there would be no Switch 2 announcement, but they were also keen to receive separate reports from the leaker on the PS5 Pro and when the next PlayStation event would be. Previously, a leaker claimed the Nintendo Switch 2 would include backward compatibility, but the gaming community is more interested in receiving an official console announcement first.

Leaker Predicts Nintendo Switch 2 Announcement Is Not Happening in September

After insiders and analysts attached themselves to a 2025 launch, a Taiwanese parts supplier added to the Switch 2’s release window debate. During an investor conference, it was reported console orders were expected to increase during Q3 2024, catering to new models of the PS5, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch. Therefore, these indicators suggest the Switch 2 could start production in Q3 2024, potentially alongside an official announcement. It’s also been suggested that a Holiday 2025 release for the Switch 2 could be a lucrative release window for the handheld to debut.

With no concrete release window to grasp onto, the Nintendo community is also struggling to pinpoint what launch title the handheld could release with, and thoughts on the Nintendo Switch 2 stealing Sony’s PS5 strategy were discussed. The PS5 successfully launched with Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls in tow, but the console also debuted with Astro’s Playroom and the titular robot became the console’s official mascot in tandem. Nintendo’s flagship IPs include Super Mario Bros. And The Legend of Zelda, but the publisher could also have an original IP and mascot under wraps to debut alongside the new and improved handheld system.
