Since the Switch 2 won't hit the market before early June, that comes out to approximately 1.5 million console sales per month until March 31, 2026.

Nintendo's Consolidated Financial Forecast for Fiscal Year 2026

Nintendo Switch 2 FY26 Sales Expectations hardware and software
Nintendo's consoldiated financial forecast for fiscal year 2026, including projections for Switch and Switch 2 hardware and software sales in the April 2025 – March 2026 period.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 sales: 15 million units
  • Nintendo Switch 2 software sales: 45 million units
  • Nintendo Switch sales: 4.5 million units
  • Nintendo Switch software sales: 105 million units

The estimate was shared as part of Nintendo's latest consolidated financial report, which also saw the company forecast 45 million Switch 2 software sales during the same period. The figure doesn't include games sold via package deals, such as the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle.

Nintendo also expects to sell 4.5 million Switch consoles, as well as 105 million Switch games during its fiscal year 2026. For reference, the company sold approximately 11.5 million Switch units over the course of calendar year 2024. While the Switch is nearing the PS2’s record as the best-selling console of all time, it’s unlikely to claim that title before 2027 at the earliest, as it remains nearly 8 million units short of the 160 million milestone needed to make history.

Nintendo’s newly shared Switch 2 sales forecast is roughly in line with the original Switch’s first-year performance. The Switch sold around 14.86 million units in calendar year 2017 and 15.05 million during Nintendo’s 2018 fiscal year, which ended in March 2018—about 13 months after the console's launch. However, the Switch 2’s forecast of 15 million units is slightly more ambitious, since the console will only be available for 10 months of the current fiscal year. Nintendo's latest financial report has also reiterated the late 2025 release window for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, in addition to reaffirming that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is still targeting a 2025 launch. Both games will be available on the Switch, though the Switch 2's backward compatibility will also ensure they're playable on Nintendo's next console.
