A new system update for the Nintendo Switch 2 is now live, bringing with it some additional stability improvements to further polish the player experience. Following the highly anticipated console's release in June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has implemented a number of patches to fix bugs and to make gaming more enjoyable, and while small, this new update promises to do the same.

Nintendo Switch 2 Retail Displays Are Appearing in Stores

In the months leading up to the launch of the Switch 2, player interest remained at an all-time high, with leagues of fans eager to snag Nintendo's newest hybrid console. Despite its hefty price tag and lack of first-party titles at launch, sales of the Nintendo Switch 2 have been wildly impressive, with the console having sold over 2 million copies in Japan alone and over 6 million globally as of this month. Player feedback has been largely positive as well, and the Switch 2 continues to fly off store shelves, with several heavy-hitting games still scheduled to drop in the remaining months of 2025.

Following the launch of a Nintendo Switch 2 firmware update in early September, the company has rolled out another patch for the popular console. The official Nintendo website simply states that the update makes some "general system stability improvements to enhance the user experience," but the popular dataminer OatmealDome did a little extra digging to learn more. On Twitter, the user noted that some code dealing with system time and handling accounts was updated on the original Switch. While it's unclear exactly how the new update has impacted the Switch 2, it may contain backwards compatibility fixes. If the company's update cadence continues moving forward, a new system patch for the Switch 2 will be released before too long.

While September saw some popular releases in Hollow Knight: Silksong, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, October promises to be a busy month for the Switch 2. Borderlands 4 is slated to finally hit the hybrid console on October 3, with the terrifying puzzle-platformer Little Nightmares 3 promising to bring some scares just in time for Halloween on October 10. At the top of many players' wishlists is Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which is finally coming on October 16.

While the year is quickly coming to a close, several major titles are still coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment isn't too far off, coming to the console on November 6, with Kirby Air Riders promising to bring plenty of racing action on November 20. Additionally, the September 12 Nintendo Direct stream finally revealed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond would indeed make its 2025 release window, with Samus' next adventure releasing on December 4.
