One creative Donkey Kong Bananza player was recently inspired to make their own custom, 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 dock cover themed after the beloved gorilla mascot. Donkey Kong’s latest solo outing just launched to rave reviews earlier this month, with many going as far as to call Donkey Kong Bananza the Nintendo Switch 2’s first true killer app.
Donkey Kong Bananza sends DK to a sprawling underground world filled with changing environments to smash through and crystal-like Banandium Gems to locate and devour. Alongside a younger version of Pauline from Super Mario Odyssey and the original Donkey Kong arcade games, DK must break through destructible landscapes and battle the evil mining company VoidCo. To reach the Banandium Root at the core of the planet, which is said to grant whoever finds it their greatest wish.
Donkey Kong Bananza is a Special Kind of Homecoming
Donkey Kong Bananza marks the first new DK-focused title in over a decade, but there's something that makes this homecoming even more special.
Reddit user freakintoddles is one of many Nintendo Switch 2 owners enjoying Donkey Kong Bananza, so much so that they decided to make a custom Switch 2 dock cover inspired by the iconic Donkey Kong franchise. This simple cover is modeled after the wooden barrels seen in many Donkey Kong games, with the letters “DK” placed in the front in red and yellow. Creator freakintoddles used 3D printing to create this Switch 2 accessory, and the files for other players to do so can be downloaded from Makerworld.
Donkey Kong Fan Creates Impressive 3D-Printed Switch 2 Dock Cover
As mentioned before, Donkey Kong Bananza has been a smash hit among early Switch 2 adopters, with much of its praise going toward its impressive destruction mechanics and the creative platforming they bring to DK’s latest 3D adventure. As one of the first major exclusives for the Nintendo Switch 2, Donkey Kong Bananza could set the standard for future Nintendo titles, even as some wonder why it wasn’t made into a Switch 2 launch title like Mario Kart World.
freakintoddles isn’t the only Donkey Kong Bananza fan to try to customize their Nintendo Switch 2 console or games in honor of DK’s big comeback. A few days ago, someone attempted to pay homage to Donkey Kong 64’s N64 game cartridge by spray-painting their Donkey Kong Bananza game card yellow, but all this did was cause the cartridge to get stuck in the console before being broken completely. Thankfully, freakintoddles’s custom Switch 2 cover isn’t anywhere near as dangerous, as it is simply a 3D-printed cover that can be slipped on and off the Nintendo Switch 2 console dock whenever the player is ready for another round of Donkey Kong Bananza.
