Elden Ring is coming to the Switch 2, a well-known leaker has said. The same source believes that this new version of the game for Nintendo's unannounced console may not be developed by FromSoftware.

The Switch successor is expected to have strong support from third-party developers. No fewer than three games have already been confirmed for the Switch 2, and many more are likely to follow once the console is finally officially unveiled.

Rumor: Nintendo Leaker Narrows Down Potential Switch 2 Reveal Date

A Nintendo insider narrows down the potential reveal date for the Switch 2, suggesting that the console will finally be announced soon.

In the meantime, established leaker Nash Weedle has recently taken to Twitter to claim that Elden Ring will also be coming to Nintendo's upcoming device. Its Switch 2 port is said to be a "definitive edition" of the game, meaning it would be bundled with the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Elden Ring Switch 2 Version May Be Handled By Dark Souls: Remastered Dev

The purported port is reportedly handled by Virtuos rather than FromSoftware itself, as per the same source. The Singaporean studio has a long track record of porting games to the Switch, having previously worked on projects such as BioShock: The Collection and Assassin's Creed Liberation Remastered. Virtuos was also the company behind Dark Souls: Remastered, which is still the only FromSoftware game on Nintendo's hybrid console. Therefore, the notion of Virtuos being in charge of bringing Elden Ring to the Switch 2 sounds well within the realm of possibility.

Elden Ring May Reach Switch 2 By Late 2025

Nash Weedle believes that the Switch 2 version of Elden Ring could hit the market by the end of 2025. Taken at face value, this time frame suggests that the game could be a launch title for Nintendo's upcoming console. While the device isn't expected to hit the store shelves before Q2 2025 at the very earliest, some recent reports indicated that the Switch 2 may not be released before late 2025, not least because it has yet to enter mass production.

For clarity, Nintendo is believed to be eager to have the Switch 2 avoid launch shortages like the one that plagued its predecessor, as per a February 2024 report from Nikkei. Given that the company’s production output is currently thought to match its 2016 levels, and knowing the Switch was in mass production for a bit over four months before launch, it's possible that Nintendo will spend over six months building up its inventory before releasing the Switch 2.
