Summary

  • Fast Fusion, featuring F-Zero voice actor Jack Merluzzi, is set to launch alongside Mario Kart World for Nintendo Switch 2.
  • A unique feature allows players to fuse two racing machines together to create modified race cars.
  • Previous successful Fast titles make Fast Fusion a highly anticipated graphical showcase for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The developer of Fast Fusion has announced that former F-Zero voice actor Jack Merluzzi will have a role in the upcoming game. Fast Fusion will launch alongside Mario Kart World and the Nintendo Switch Online version of F-Zero GX when it releases in June.

As one of the cheapest launch titles for Nintendo Switch 2, Fast Fusion could be a popular title for the console’s day-one buyers. It will be the latest in a series of high-paced racing games that make impressive use of Nintendo hardware. The most notable feature of this new entry is the titular ability to fuse two "racing machines" together to create one race car with modified stats.

The racing genre is filled with incredibly exhilarating and fast entries, but which series ranks as the most iconic with the best entries?

Developer Shin’en Multimedia confirmed on Twitter that Jack Merluzzi will be returning to do voice work for Fast Fusion. Merluzzi is one of many prolific voice actors in the video game industry. Over the past few decades, he has lent his talents to classic franchises such as Tekken, The King of Fighters, Mega Man X, and Castlevania. Most relevantly, he also had several roles in F-Zero GX, voicing Beastman, Dai Goroh, Black Shadow, and The Skull.

F-Zero Voice Actor Returns to the Fast Series

There was no word on who Merluzzi will be playing in Fast Fusion, but given that he has been the racetrack announcer for the past two Fast titles, it seems likely that he will reprise this role again. If so, players will hear his voice at the start of each lap and at the beginning and end of each race.

The Fast series has a long history with Nintendo. It began with the WiiWare title Fast Racing League before continuing on the Wii U with Fast Racing Neo. More recently, Fast RMX was a launch title for the original Nintendo Switch. That game received high praise upon release, so Fast Fusion has a lot to live up to. It makes sense that Nintendo has courted Fast games as launch titles for its new systems because they often serve as exciting graphical showcases. The series’ steady frame rate and realistic environments intuitively show off the Switch 2’s technical capabilities in a highly visual way.

As the F-Zero franchise has largely been relegated to spinoffs and re-releases over the past few decades, many fans feel as though Fast has taken on the mantle as the most futuristic racing experience on Nintendo systems. With the Switch 2, however, Fast Fusion will have more company than Shin’en Multimedia is used to in the relatively niche racing genre. In addition to Mario Kart World, Nintendo’s premiere first-party offering, F-Zero GX will also be available on day one through Nintendo Switch Online’s GameCube library.
