Summary

  • Playtonic Games has once again teased Yooka-Replaylee for the Switch 2.
  • The game is also coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
  • Yooka-Replaylee is a remaster of 2017's Yooka-Laylee.

Playtonic Games has once again teased that the upcoming Yooka-Replaylee will be coming to the Switch 2 console. Yooka-Replaylee, for the uninitiated, is an extensive remaster of 2017's Yooka-Laylee, itself a spiritual successor to Rare's beloved Banjo-Kazooie franchise.

Yooka-Replaylee was announced this past summer, with Playtonic eventually confirming that the game would be coming to an unspecified Nintendo console. Clearly, this means that Yooka-Replaylee is in development for the Switch 2, which has yet to be officially revealed by Nintendo. Now Playtonic has once again teased Yooka-Replaylee for the Switch 2 with a clever tweet promoting the upcoming remaster.

Yooka-Replaylee stands to be the definitive version of the game if Playtonic keeps going in this direction, but it needs some polish.

In a recent tweet, Playtonic showed off Yooka-Replaylee's Rampo encounter and reminded fans about the platforms that the new game is releasing on. The tweet reads: "Yooka-Replaylee is coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series and," cutting off right at the end. While some may write this off as a simple social media error, it's obviously another hint that the game is coming to the Switch 2 console.

The Switch 2 still has yet to be revealed at the time of this writing. Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 is backward compatible and will utilize the same online service as its predecessor, but it hasn't shown what the console looks like or even what its official name will be. Despite the secrecy surrounding the Switch 2, various developers have announced that they are making games for the platform.

Games Announced for Switch 2 Console

  • Bestiario
  • My Time at Evershine
  • Yooka-Replaylee

The first game ever confirmed for the Switch 2 was RPG Bestiario, followed by life sim RPG My Time at Evershine, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter. Yooka-Replaylee has also thrown its hat in the ring, though we have no idea when exactly any of these games will come to Nintendo's new console. It's possible they will be launch titles, but it's also possible that they will be released later in the device's lifespan.

All of that really depends on when exactly the Switch 2 is released. As it stands, Nintendo has promised to reveal the Switch 2 by April 2025, but it hasn't confirmed when the console will actually hit store shelves. More information on that front should come to light once Nintendo actually reveals the Switch 2 to the masses.
