Survival Kids, a Nintendo Switch 2 launch title developed by Konami, will allow players to team up with two friends through local GameShare. The Nintendo Switch 2 release is approaching, and its launch lineup includes 24 games, with the reboot of Konami’s classic Survival Kids among them—offering an adventure players will be able to enjoy in local co-op.

Survival Kids was an important release for the Game Boy Color in 1999, as it laid out some basic concepts for survival mechanics in handheld gaming. In it, players took on the role of a boy or a girl who’s stuck on a deserted island after a storm, and must manage hunger, thirst, fatigue, and health, with cool features like item crafting, a dynamic environment, and non-linear progression. The game saw a sequel and later evolved into the Lost in Blue series on the Nintendo DS and Wii, continuing the survival adventure theme. With the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch titles, players got a Survival Kids trailer during the Nintendo Direct in April, and now a major new feature has been revealed.

During an interview with Game File, Survival Kids producer Andy Dennison revealed that the Nintendo Switch 2 launch title will support local co-op for up to three players through Nintendo’s new GameShare feature—meaning players won’t need to buy more than one copy to play together. But the good news doesn’t stop there: the feature will also allow Survival Kids to run on a Switch 1 alongside someone with a Switch 2 and a copy of the game.

Dennison went on to explain how Survival Kids will work with Nintendo's new GameShare feature. He said that the Switch 2 streams the game to friends’ devices, and they can jump into local co-op just by hitting a button on the menu—without needing everyone to own the game or the Switch 2.

Recently, Nintendo Switch Online added four Game Boy games, including the original Survival Kids. This is a great opportunity for those who haven’t yet played any game from the franchise to prepare for the upcoming release of the new Survival Kids on June 5. Alongside Konami’s classic, 24 other titles are launching with the Switch 2, including high-profile games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Hogwarts Legacy, Fortnite, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, among others. As players gear up for the Switch 2’s imminent release, Nintendo fans have plenty to look forward to with the new console and its launch titles.
