MultiVersus' Future May Partially Lie in a Potential Switch 2 Port

Nintendo may have an incredibly successful platform brawler with Super Smash Bros., but this series isn't the only game in the genre allowed on the company's consoles. With games like Brawlhalla and LEGO Brawls, Nintendo isn't opposed to sharing the spotlight when it comes to these types of titles. Since MultiVersus puts a Warner Bros. Spin on the Super Smash Bros. Formula, it's interesting that the game would sidestep such a perfectly suited home for a port.

A Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for April 2. The details of this event are under wraps, but a deeper dive into features and potential launch titles could be revealed.

No Switch 2 Port Could Hold MultiVersus Back

MultiVersus is currently available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, making the lack of a Nintendo port that much more confusing. It would be understandable if the game was a PC or console exclusive, but with its expansive reach, one would assume that moving to the Switch would only be seen as beneficial for Warner Bros. MultiVersus could be missing a big opportunity if it chooses to forego yet another Switch port when its successor arrives.

In fact, with Nintendo's history of harboring the Super Smash Bros. Franchise, MultiVersus may actually benefit the most from this type of port. There is an entire player-base who love platform brawlers specifically because of Super Smash Bros., and being given another option with some of pop culture's biggest Warner Bros. Characters is bound to draw in a lot of players.

The Switch 2 is Now One of 2025's Biggest Launches

GTA 6 and the Switch 2 are currently the two biggest scheduled releases of the year, but the latter has the benefit of being a console, so a lot of developers and publishers are likely eyeing it in order to further the reach of their own games. Having a port for a brand-new console ready is a powerful way to reignite hype for one's product, and it could be the key to bringing MultiVersus to greater heights.

As of now, the Switch 2 does not have an official release date.

Of course, any indication of a Switch 2 port for MultiVersus remains to be seen. Warner Bros. Likely has its reasoning for side-stepping such a port. It's also possible that the company tried to negotiate with Nintendo at some point, and the plans just happened to fall through. This is purely speculation, but hopefully MultiVersus is able to find a home on the Switch 2 when it launches later this year.
