Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 console will go live on Wednesday, April 9. Nintendo recently hosted a huge Switch 2 Direct presentation that revealed many of the games that are in development for the next-generation console, including a brand-new Donkey Kong game, a new 3v3 multiplayer IP called Drag x Drive, and a new FromSoftware game called The Duskbloods.

The Nintendo Direct didn't just focus on Switch 2 games. It also revealed a lot more about the Switch 2 hardware, including how much it costs and when it will release. As announced during the Nintendo Direct, the Switch 2 will launch on June 5 and will have two different bundles for fans to choose from. There will be the $449.99 standard bundle and the $499.99 Mario Kart World bundle. Naturally, Nintendo fans are likely wondering when exactly they will be able to pre-order the Switch 2 for themselves.

While some expected Switch 2 pre-orders to go live immediately after the Nintendo Direct, they will instead go live one week from now, on Wednesday, April 9. Specific timing for pre-orders wasn't announced, but it will likely vary by retailer. It's possible some retailers will even jump the gun and open up Switch 2 pre-orders ahead of time, so gamers may want to get in touch with their local stores just in case.

When Can You Pre-Order the Switch 2?

When the Switch 2 console pre-orders go live, gamers will likely have the chance to pre-order games and accessories for the system as well. The Switch 2 has a unique new camera peripheral that is used for the new GameChat feature and in select games like the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree. Plus, there is a new Switch 2 Pro controller on the way as well. The new GameCube controller won't be available for purchase until June 5, however, and seems to be exclusive to Nintendo's website.

Of course, there is always the concern that scalpers may ruin the Switch 2 fun, and that could very well be the case. Nintendo is aware of the potential scalper threat and will hopefully do something to make it so it's not as bad as the PS5 launch five years ago, but that remains to be seen. For now, those interested in the Switch 2 can circle April 9 on their calendars and start making plans for where they are going to pre-order the new home console/handheld hybrid.
