Summary
- GameStop customers may want to pay off their Switch 2 pre-orders ahead of the midnight launch.
- Those that already have their pre-order paid off will be able to get in and out of the store faster.
- Different GameStop locations may be handling midnight launches differently, so be sure to check with your local store.
Anyone that has a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order through GameStop may want to consider popping into the store and paying it off by Wednesday night. As is often the case with new console launches, the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order process was a disaster. All participating online retailers crashed and Nintendo itself resorted to a lottery system to sell Switch 2 consoles to those lucky enough to be selected.
Securing a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order wasn't easy for many fans, but GameStop provided some hope. While GameStop online pre-orders went about as smoothly as everyone else, many found success by simply going to their local GameStops in-person and getting their pre-order that way. Those that pre-ordered their Switch 2 consoles through GameStop can also look forward to getting their hands on the device ahead of those that ordered online because the video game retailer is hosting a midnight launch.
GameStop Stock Takes Big Hit After Controversial Announcement
GameStop stock takes a significant hit following yet another controversial announcement from the embattled video game retailer.
Unless there is some kind of data error or something else goes wrong, those that have pre-ordered their Switch 2 through GameStop should have no problem going to the store at midnight EST or the day of launch and walking out with their new console. However, anyone planning on going to the GameStop midnight launch for the Switch 2 may want to pay off their console ahead of time. I received a phone call from my local GameStop that explained those that have their pre-order paid off will be able to immediately get their stuff and go, while there will be a line for those that have yet to pay off or who don't have a pre-order and are buying one of the extra consoles. Mileage may vary from one GameStop to the next, but it would be worth calling to see how your local store is doing its midnight launch promotion, and if it's anything like mine, make a trip to the store before Wednesday to pay off that pre-order and expedite the process.
When is the GameStop Nintendo Switch 2 Midnight Launch?
- June 4 at 9pm PT/June 4 at 11pm CT/June 5 at 12am ET
The Nintendo Switch 2 is launching with a relatively small selection of exclusive games, with Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Fast Fusion, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, Survival Kids, and Mario Kart World making up the console's launch exclusives. Out of these, Mario Kart World will likely be purchased alongside nearly every other Switch 2 purchase on June 5, unless one manages to get the bundle that comes with MKW at a $30 discount.
Those that didn't get a Switch 2 pre-order can still buy one on launch day if they manage to find it in a store. When the Switch 2 launches on June 5, there will be two versions to choose from: the $449.99 standard Switch 2 that doesn't come with a game and the $499.99 Switch 2 that comes with Mario Kart World. Since Mario Kart World typically retails for $79.99, that MKW Switch 2 bundle is going to be highly sought-after among the console's early adopters.
