The Nintendo Switch 2 has received a new system update for June 2025 addressing stability issues. The brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 was released less than a month ago, and while the console is off to a strong start, the company is trying to keep refining the user experience and bring better performance to the Switch’s successor.

The wait for the Switch 2 was long. While other companies like Sony and Microsoft had already released their latest consoles, Nintendo took more time to join the ninth generation of video game consoles with the Switch 2. So far, the console has been a tremendous success, selling over 3.5 million units worldwide, making it the fastest-selling Nintendo console ever. Fans’ demand for the Switch’s successor was so intense that many retailers experienced stock shortages, and there were even supply issues like theft of units. The console is basically a revamped version of the original Switch, offering a much more powerful system that allows it to run the latest releases as well as Switch games at a better frame rate. Now, Nintendo is making sure that the Switch 2 runs smoothly.

The successful Nintendo Switch 2 has just been updated to version 20.1.5. The patch notes are quite minimal and don’t really say more than just “general system stability improvements,” which Nintendo is introducing to make the user experience a little better. Luckily for Switch 2 users, this likely means the console will run more smoothly, though it’s unclear what exactly the update does.

Even though Nintendo is improving stability, one big flaw of the Switch 2 console is the Joy-Con drift issue. This was a major problem with the original Switch, and fans were hopeful its successor would solve the issue somehow—but Nintendo didn’t, and users have been recently reporting this problem on the brand-new console, with some even experiencing it straight out of the box.

Despite this issue, the console has plenty of positive aspects, such as its game library. While it’s true that it's still small compared to those of its competitors, the Nintendo Switch 2 is progressively bringing new titles for players. In addition to the games available upon release, players will see the addition of more titles in July, like Donkey Kong Bananza, Super Mario Party Jamboree: Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, and more. Players are recommended to install the new update ASAP in order to get the best experience possible from the console. As Nintendo continues refining the Switch 2, players have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months.
