The Touryst Deluxe is coming to the Switch 2 on September 25. Players who already bought the original The Touryst for Nintendo's first hybrid console will be able to upgrade to the new version for a fraction of its regular price.

Developed by Munich, Germany-based Shin'en Multimedia, The Touryst is an open-world vacation adventure game. It was originally released for the Switch in 2019, then made its way to Xbox consoles and PC the following year. In 2021, Shin'en Multimedia launched its PS5 port, which was billed as the world's first 8K game. The designation was essentially a gimmick as the PS5 does not support 8K output over HDMI 2.1 and the advertised resolution was only rendered internally before being downsampled. While Sony initially promoted its ninth-generation console as being capable of going beyond 4K, it has since shifted strategy, with newer PS5 packaging omitting any mention of 8K support.

The Touryst Deluxe Brings 4K60FPS Gameplay With HDR Support and New Content to Switch 2

Following numerous ports, The Touryst is coming full circle, returning to Nintendo's ecosystem with a new Deluxe version that will be exclusive to the Switch 2. The upcoming edition promises to take advantage of the Switch 2's HDR support, in addition to offering 4K gameplay at 60 frames per second. It will also introduce some additional content, including new items, quests, and an arcade mode.

The Touryst Deluxe Offers $5 Upgrade for Owners of the Original Game

Much like the original game, The Touryst Deluxe will retail for $19.99. Pre-orders have been open on the eShop since September 18. Owners of the Switch original don't get a free upgrade, but they are eligible for a 75% discount, bringing the game's price down to $4.99. It is presently unclear whether this offer will combine with future promotional discounts once The Touryst Deluxe inevitably goes on sale. While the 2019 title received a limited physical release, Switch 2 owners will only be able to purchase The Touryst Deluxe digitally.

Release formats aside, the upcoming title is poised to expand the selection of cozy games on the Switch 2. The promise of 4K gameplay in docked mode isn't the only visual improvement that the new edition has in store, as it will also incorporate global illumination, ambient occlusion, improved depth of field, enhanced rain effects, anti-aliasing, and voxel shoreline waves. Refined controls are also said to be part of the package, although Shin'en Multimedia has yet to elaborate on what exactly that will entail. Switch save data from The Touryst will be compatible with the Deluxe edition of the voxel vacation game.
