Nintendo has officially shared the prices for the upcoming Virtual Boy accessories set to be released for the Switch and Switch 2, necessary to play the newest games hitting Nintendo Switch Online. The September 2025 Nintendo Direct livestream brought plenty of big news for fans of a wide variety of franchises, both on Switch and Switch 2. The stream featured plenty of news about Mario's 40th anniversary, including an announcement for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, as well as the reveal of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. However, one old Nintendo platform made a surprise appearance during the broadcast.
As part of Nintendo Switch Online's growing library of classic games, Nintendo dropped a surprise reveal that the Virtual Boy will be joining the Switch Online roster. The gaming juggernaut confirmed that a selection of games from the infamous Nintendo console will be featured within the Switch Online subscription, set to officially join the service early next year. Nintendo also debuted a brand-new peripheral alongside the announcement, requiring players to slot their Switch consoles into an accessory mimicking the real Virtual Boy. Now, fans are getting an idea of how much the Virtual Boy accessories will cost.
Every Super Mario Game That's Still Not on Nintendo Switch 2
As Super Mario hits his 40th anniversary, a look at which games in the series aren't on Nintendo's Switch 2 can reveal quite a lot.
A new listing on Nintendo's official online store has confirmed the launch prices for both versions of the Virtual Boy accessories for the Switch. The full-size Virtual Boy accessory for the Switch and Switch 2, modeled after the appearance of the original console, will retail for $99.99 USD through the Nintendo shop. The smaller cardboard Virtual Boy headset, likely meant to be a more portable option, will be sold for a lower price point at $24.99 USD. Both accessories will release alongside the Switch 2's Virtual Boy games on February 17.
Nintendo Shares Prices for Virtual Boy Switch Accessories
- Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2: $99.99
- Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2: $24.99
The introduction of the lineup of Virtual Boy games will make some of Nintendo's most elusive games available to play for a wider audience. The Virtual Boy had a very short shelf life for the console's official run, discontinued in North America only a year after the console's launch. As a result, many of the games originally developed for the Virtual Boy have not seen a re-release since their original debut, with only 22 unique Virtual Boy titles produced worldwide.
The unexpected addition of the Virtual Boy to the Nintendo Switch Online lineup comes as the service's offerings have expanded substantially with the Switch 2's launch. Nintendo officially rolled out the long-requested introduction of Nintendo GameCube games as a Switch 2 exclusive with the subscription, featuring beloved games like Zelda: The Wind Waker and Soul Calibur 2. Switch 2 fans have also been able to pick up some Switch 2 Edition upgrades as part of the service, including Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo Switch Online's Virtual Boy games will shed some light on a more obscure part of Nintendo's library.
