- It's likely that Switch 2 GameCube controllers will sell out fast.
Nintendo is giving Switch 2 fans the chance to purchase GameCube controllers through its website, but it's not been an easy process. During the Switch 2 Direct presentation, Nintendo confirmed that the upcoming console would feature an upgraded version of the Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Exclusively on Switch 2, Expansion Pack subscribers can play a selection of GameCube games, with three titles set to be available at launch on June 5.
The three GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch are The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur 2. These are heavy hitters and considered some of the best GameCube games of all time, so it's no surprise that many Switch 2 fans want an authentic experience. While other controllers can be used to play GameCube games on the Switch 2, Nintendo is giving fans the chance to purchase wireless GameCube controllers for its next-generation home console/handheld hybrid.
Nintendo Reveals Helpful Switch 2 Battery Feature
Nintendo reveals that the Switch 2 will have an option that users can activate to help extend the console's battery life and conserve energy.
Switch 2 GameCube controllers first went on sale on May 8 to those who received an email invitation to pre-order a console directly from Nintendo itself. Invites were slowly rolled out from May 8 to May 12, with eligible people that signed up chosen through a lottery system. As of May 13, $64.99 GameCube controllers for the Switch 2 are supposed to be on sale to all Switch Online subscribers, regardless if they received a Switch 2 pre-order invite or not. However, it seems many fans attempting to buy one are stuck in a Nintendo Waiting Room. Those interested in giving it a shot can visit Nintendo's website, but be warned that there is a massive queue.
Nintendo Fans Put in Waiting Room While Trying to Buy Switch 2 GameCube Controllers
Based on various social media posts, there are those who successfully managed to pre-order a Switch 2 GameCube controller through Nintendo's website. Unfortunately, it appears the vast majority of people that want a GameCube controller for Switch 2 are currently out of luck. For reference, I have personally been stuck on the Waiting Room page for about 40 minutes at the time of this writing and have yet to be given a chance to buy a Switch 2 GameCube controller.
It's quite likely that Nintendo will sell out of its stock of Switch 2 GameCube controllers and fans will have to wait for a restock down the line. This wouldn't be unlike what happened with the Switch 1 Nintendo 64 controllers, so it's a little frustrating that there doesn't ever seem to be enough supply to meet demand for these items. It seems Nintendo vastly underestimated demand for the Switch 2 and its accessories, but hopefully there will be plenty to go around come launch.
