During the April 27 Nintendo Switch 2 Experience event in Tokyo, a speedrunner beat the upcoming Switch 2 Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild within minutes. The Breath of the Wild speedrun happened before both the Switch 2 and its launch games were released, making the quick clearance of the Switch 2 Edition the first of its kind.

Originally released in March 2017, Breath of the Wild bridged the gap between the outgoing Wii U console and the fledgling Switch as a cross-generation title. Breath of the Wild proved to be an overwhelming success for Nintendo, as the company later developed DLC for the game along with its sequel, Tears of the Kingdom. During the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct episode on April 2, both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were confirmed to receive Switch 2 enhanced versions that will also be given to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members as a perk. However, Breath of the Wild's DLC will still require an additional purchase for players to get the full experience.

Wholesale retailer Costco will offer customers looking for a Switch 2 a bundle that will include a nifty perk, with some caveats to consider.

While the Switch 2 and its launch titles will not arrive until June 5, a speedrunner made the most of their time at a recent event. As reported by Nintendeal on social media, a Japanese speedrunner named Ikaboze attended the Switch 2 Experience event at the Makuhari Messe convention center near Tokyo Bay. Ikaboze beat Breath of the Wild's upcoming Switch 2 Edition within seven minutes, making it the first time the game had been beaten on the Switch 2 system. Ikaboze later released a YouTube video detailing his time at the Switch 2 event, and explained the techniques he tried in the 20 minutes he was given to test how Breath of the Wild's simple game mechanics would differ on the Switch 2.

Breath of The Wild Speedrunner Quickly Beats Upcoming Switch 2 Edition

Ikaboze chose to forego using armor and fairies during his time allotment, leaving Link with minimal defenses. After failing an attempted "wind bomb" to gain momentum, Ikaboze chose to run straight through Hyrule Castle to face Calamity Ganon, Breath of the Wild's final boss. Ikaboze immediately pointed out how the faster load times and higher frame rates of the Switch 2 Edition had no negative impact on his Breath of the Wild run.

After defeating Ganon and reaching the credits, Ikaboze received applause from the event staff and other attendees. Between various speedruns and the upcoming Switch 2 Edition, Breath of the Wild remains one of the top open-world titles for Nintendo fans to sink time into.
