Ahead of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, the official Nintendo Switch Online app has been updated, with its name now changed to the Nintendo Switch App. The patch also adds support for the highly anticipated console, allowing users to accept GameChat invitations while playing games with their friends on the Switch 2.

In April, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch Online app would change its name in a future update while also adding support for several Switch 2 titles. Those using voice chat while playing Switch 1 games can still do so, but many new features have also been implemented as the company seeks to make the transition as smooth as possible. With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 just one week away, many players are eager to experience the fresh hardware for themselves, and the developer's handy app is now primed and ready to be used on day one.

As reported by IGN, frequent users of Nintendo's handy mobile app may notice some big changes today. Now named the Nintendo Switch App, update 3.0.1 also includes a design refresh for easier navigation. Notably, the app is now primed and ready for the Nintendo Switch 2's GameChat feature, with users able to easily accept invitations from buddies and manage their friends list. Additionally, it's now simpler for users to manage their captured screenshots and videos, as these can be uploaded directly to the Nintendo Switch App. According to the patch notes, several small improvements have been made, and some bug fixes have also been implemented.

The new hybrid console will offer some big improvements over the Switch 1, with the Nintendo Switch 2 boasting 4K support, a larger screen, and 256GB of storage space, eight times the 32GB of space found in the original console. HDR will be supported in compatible titles, and variable refresh rates will make visuals much more smooth. Players can also expect new controller capabilities, with the Joy-Con 2 supporting mouse functionality in certain titles.

At launch on June 5, at least two dozen titles will be available for the Switch 2, including Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, Hogwarts Legacy, and Sonic X Shadow Generations. In the coming months, fans can look forward to the highly anticipated Donkey Kong Bananza, along with Kirby Air Riders and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, which recently revealed its release date of October 16. Those eager to dive into the Switch 2 versions of both Zelda titles can do so on launch day as well, all while utilizing the new Zelda Notes app while exploring Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
