The Nintendo Switch Online service has been updated to add Chibi-Robo to the lineup of GameCube games available to Expansion Pack tier members. Nintendo Switch Online features two tiers for subscribers to choose from. The basic tier comes with NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Color games along with online multiplayer access, while the Expansion Pack tier includes all of that plus Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, and, exclusively on Switch 2, GameCube games.
Nintendo celebrated the Switch 2's launch with a trio of GameCube games for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers that managed to get their hands on the new console. The first three GameCube games available on Switch Online were fan-favorite racing game F-Zero GX, critically-acclaimed fighting game Soulcalibur 2, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - a game that many point to as the absolute best GameCube game ever made. Those three games were followed up by Super Mario Strikers in July, and now Chibi-Robo has been added to the mix as well.
All GameCube Games Coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 (So Far)
Nintendo GameCube games are available to play on the Nintendo Switch 2, but not everyone has access.
Chibi-Robo is a cult classic GameCube game that was released for the console in Japan in 2005 before making its way to North America in 2006. A quirky game about a little robot completing household tasks, Chibi-Robo earned mostly positive reviews, but didn't exactly fly off store shelves. This made the game hard to come by in later years, which makes its addition to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup so exciting. Right now, a physical copy of Chibi-Robo on GameCube is listed for around $200 on eBay, so being able to play it on a Switch 2 without paying anything beyond what one already pays for their subscription is a fantastic deal.
By adding Chibi-Robo to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack GameCube library, Nintendo will be exposing the game to a wider audience. In turn, this could drum up more interest in the franchise in general, though that remains to be seen. The original Chibi-Robo was followed up by Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol on the Nintendo DS, Chibi-Robo: Photo Finder on 3DS, and most recently, Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash, also on the 3DS. Perhaps some of these other games will be made playable on Switch 2 in some capacity, or maybe Nintendo will eventually pursue a full-blown sequel for its latest home console/handheld hybrid.
