Nintendo revealed that Forsaken 64, a first-person shooter by Acclaim Entertainment, will launch on the Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ app on September 4. The arrival of Forsaken 64 on the N64 Mature 17+ app will mark the fifth game on the service, which requires an active Nintendo Switch Online membership along with the Expansion Pack upgrade.

Originally released in April 1998 for PC, Forsaken received a Nintendo 64 port in May 1998. A remaster of Forsaken was released on PC and Xbox One in July 2018 by NightDive Studios. NightDive, a subsidiary of Atari, currently owns the rights to Forsaken 64 and is credited with bringing the first-person shooter to the Nintendo Switch Online service. In Forsaken 64, players control a bike-riding mercenary as they fight through hordes of mechanical terrors that have taken over a post-apocalyptic Earth. With split-screen multiplayer that supports up to four players, Forsaken 64 is considered one of the top FPS titles on the N64.

Nintendo rolls out a new system update for the Switch 2, with the original Switch console also seeing a few helpful adjustments.

Forsaken 64 Is Coming to the Switch Online N64 App

Although the Nintendo 64's selection of M-rated games is not vast, Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will soon re-live a classic shooter. Forsaken 64 will launch on Thursday, September 4, at approximately 9:00 PM Eastern, on the Nintendo 64: Nintendo Classics Mature 17+ app. Players should bear in mind that the M-rated N64 app is a separate download from the mainline N64 app. An active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription is required to play Forsaken 64 on Switch consoles. Nintendo revealed a short trailer for fans to peruse, which showed snippets of single-player and multiplayer gameplay. The arrival of Forsaken 64 will bring the total number of games on the N64 Mature 17+ app to five. The app's previous update was in October 2024, when Shadow Man and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil were released.

However, the reveal of Forsaken 64 may not come as a surprise to some keen-eyed Nintendo fans. Its arrival has seemingly corroborated a previous leak that claimed five games would arrive on the N64 app, including Forsaken 64, Glover, and Super Smash Bros. The leak stated that a May 2025 trailer for the Nintendo Switch Online service featured blurred box art covers of five N64 games, which were reverse-engineered and posted by fans on social media.

Like other N64 titles on the Nintendo Classics app, Switch 2 users can use features like gameplay rewind and control remapping when playing Forsaken 64. Though Nintendo has been sporadic in releasing updates to the Nintendo Classics app lineup, it remains to be seen what surprises the company has in store.
