Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with the Expansion Pack upgrade and a Switch 2 console can soon play Luigi's Mansion on the GameCube app. Nintendo revealed that Luigi's Mansion will be available on the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube app on Thursday, October 30, just one day before Halloween.

Luigi's Mansion was originally released in 2001 as a launch title for the GameCube. As one of the few games in the Super Mario series that feature Luigi in the leading role, Luigi's Mansion takes place in a haunted manor inhabited by ghosts. After Mario and Luigi agree to meet at the titular mansion, which Luigi won in a contest that he never entered, the green-clad hero discovers that Mario has gone missing. With help from Professor E. Gadd and the Poltergust 3000 vacuum cleaner, Luigi travels through the mansion to rid it of ghosts and otherworldly threats. Luigi's Mansion also received a 3DS port in October 2018.

Nintendo Direct For October 2025 Announced, But There's a Catch

Nintendo announces a new Direct for October 2025, but there's an important catch that gamers should be aware of before watching it.

Luigi's Mansion Is Finally Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

  • Launches Thursday, October 30

With Halloween just days away, Switch 2 users can soon experience a unique take on the ghost-hunting game genre. Luigi's Mansion will arrive on the Nintendo GameCube: Nintendo Classics app on the Switch 2 on Thursday, October 30, via an update. However, access to the Nintendo GameCube app is exclusive to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers with the Expansion Pack upgrade, which costs $50 per year before taxes. Nintendo unveiled a short trailer to give fans a look at how Luigi's Mansion will look on the Switch 2. With the upcoming addition of Luigi's Mansion to the Switch Online GameCube collection, Switch 2 users can enjoy the entire Luigi's Mansion trilogy on one system. Although Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Luigi's Mansion 3 were made for the original Switch, both sequels can be played on the Switch 2 via backward compatibility.

Additionally, Luigi's Mansion will be the sixth GameCube title added to the Switch Online catalog since the Switch 2's launch. Luigi's Mansion was initially on the list of confirmed games coming to the Switch 2's GameCube app in future updates, along with titles Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. Luigi's Mansion will arrive just two months after the GameCube app saw its last update, when Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure! Was added to the service.

Luigi's Mansion will be the fourth game Nintendo will release across all its Switch Online apps in October, as the company already shadowdropped three SNES games on October 8. Only time will tell when Nintendo will offer more GameCube titles for fans to enjoy.
