The Nintendo Switch Online subscription service contains a library of games for fans to explore on the Nintendo Switch. Subscribers to Nintendo's online service can play through a variety of retro titles from the earlier days of the company's history, as well as third-party games that have been published for these earlier systems. The service has received regular updates ever since its introduction in 2018, with new games being added every few months.
The latest addition to the service was announced recently, with three new games added to the NES and SNES catalogue. These were shown off in a trailer, announcing that some certified retro classics of these systems were coming to the service, including Dig Dug 2, Mappy-Land, and the delightfully wacky Earthworm Jim 2. What the trailers didn't show off were two new Special Versions of existing titles on the service, Super Punch Out!! Championship Edition and Super Mario World SP.
These special editions of these Nintendo classics have all of its in-game content available at the start. In the case of Super Mario World SP, it will give players maxed out lives, as well as the Fall theme that is unlocked upon completion of the Star Road secret levels. Players can see this theme applied to the overworld map in Dinosaur Land, seeing that it has a complete makeover and color scheme. A bunch of new elements will be added as well if a player starts a new adventure too.
As for Super Punch Out!! Championship Edition, every single circuit and every single opponent in the game will be available to the player at the start. These include the Minor Circuit, Major Circuit, and World Circuit options for fans to punch through along with the unlockable Special Circuit, only available upon completion of all previous circuits. In addition to this, a Time Attack mode will also be available for players to test their skills in as well.
These additions to the Nintendo Switch Online library should make for an interesting revisit for fans. This is also good for fans who want to challenge themselves in these retro classics without needing to complete all the other content beforehand and just want to get to the hard levels. This is especially true in Super Mario World's case, as with maxed out lives, players can try as many times as they wish without the worry of a game over.
Super Mario World SP and Super Punch Out!! Championship Version are available now through Nintendo Switch Online.
