  • The new update allows for seamless save transfers for players across various platforms.

Hello Games has released the latest update for No Man’s Sky to add two features, cross saves and cloud saves, that have been requested by the community for years. No Man’s Sky is an ever-expanding science-fiction game with a strong emphasis on exploration. While the title initially debuted August 9, 2016, it has received regular updates over the last eight years, often adding major systems and new content to the space game.

In No Man’s Sky, players take on the role of a Traveler. The opening hours see the player stranded on a random planet. With few resources and a broken ship, one must gather materials, craft parts, and repair their spacecraft before taking off into the sky. While its initial moments may lean heavily on the game’s survival elements, they quickly dissipate into the background as players become galaxy-hopping adventurers with an incredible amount of freedom. To keep the community coming back for more, Hello Games regularly releases Expeditions for No Man's Sky. These are limited-time events with brief storylines and exclusive rewards.

With the latest update to No Man's Sky, the developers have enabled cloud saving, cross-saves, and PS5 Pro support. In a statement on the game’s official site, Hello Games wrote that “whether you play on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, or Mac, you can share your progress across multiple devices.” This update is coming hot off the heels of No Man's Sky's recent "Aquarius" update.

No Man's Sky's Cross-Save Offers New Freedom to Players

Players will have the ability to upload five of their No Man’s Sky files to the cloud. While the game has allowed the community to interact across multiple platforms for quite some time, the ability to transfer save files has remained elusive. The new feature also applies to Twitch drops, adding even more value to exclusive rewards. The ability to transfer save data is also particularly helpful for those upgrading from PS4 to PS5, as it allows them to bring over their files seamlessly. This has been requested by the community for quite some time. The feature is especially exciting for No Man's Sky players who spend countless hours building impressive bases.

The ability to carry over save files could have a large impact on the No Man’s Sky community. For instance, PC players have been able to modify their data to unlock special mods or features for quite some time. With the ability to upload those files to the cloud, it’s possible (though not confirmed) that console players could gain access to modified save data. The new feature also enables players to engage with No Man’s Sky across any platform they wish. This could encourage the community to purchase multiple copies of the title, which may drive up sales. With this update, Hello Games has continued its longstanding tradition of meeting the needs and requests of No Man's Sky players.
