Major content updates for any game rarely launch without one issue or another, though the latest free update for No Man's Sky, titled the Relics update, seems to have rolled out with very few issues overall.

No Man's Sky players have spotted a few new bugs since the update's release too, one of which may actually be quite useful for players constantly finding themselves short on ferrite dust. A screenshot highlighting the glitch was recently shared in the No Man's Sky community online, which shows a common abandoned container somehow clogged by a full stack of 9,999 rusted metal. Although this material is classified as junk, it can easily be recycled in any refiner to produce ferrite dust at a 1:2 ratio. This means that, though it would take quite some time to process, players lucky enough to stumble upon such a crate could collect two entire stacks of ferrite dust, an amount which would otherwise take an hour or longer to mine by hand.

This Convenient No Man's Sky Bug Probably Won't Last Long

This possibility is less exciting when considering that large amounts of ferrite dust can easily be purchased at any galactic trade terminal for next to nothing, though this likely temporary exploit could be useful to players who rely on collecting resources manually, or those who are playing custom games where shop items cost a lot more to purchase. Despite being the most common resource in the No Man's Sky universe, players who spend a lot of time building in normal or survival mode save games often find themselves constantly short on the resource.

As neat an exploit as this may be for some, it's likely to be patched within days, knowing Hello Games' impressive track record of squashing game bugs following the launch of every new update. In addition to the new archeology-related features, the game's latest update also introduces some huge upgrades to No Man's Sky's abandoned universe mode, where players are completely alone and have to rely on their own resourcefulness to survive and thrive.
