As announced a few weeks ago, No Man's Sky, once hailed as a huge third-party console exclusive for PS4, is making its way to the Xbox One this summer. While we still don't have official confirmation of the game's release date, Amazon Italy appears to have leaked that it will launch on Xbox One on June 29.
It's still possible that No Man's Sky will release for Xbox One on a different day this summer, but the June 29 date seems genuine for a couple of different reasons. For one, it isn't a standard end-of-the-month placeholder date that we commonly see, so it seems strange that Amazon Italy would have it listed for a June 29 release in error. Secondly, June 29 happens to fall on a Friday, and video games typically release on Tuesdays or Fridays.
Even though this is pretty convincing evidence that No Man's Sky will come to the Xbox One on June 29, that doesn't mean that fans should get their hopes up too high just yet. While it's unlikely, it's still possible that this listing is an error on Amazon Italy's part.
When No Man's Sky does launch for Xbox One this summer, it will be interesting to see how people react to it. After all, the game's initial launch on PC and PS4 was met with widespread criticism and disappointment, with many people accusing game director Sean Murray of misleading them about some of its features.
However, the launch of No Man's Sky on Xbox One is Hello Games' chance at a second first impression. Beyond just its Xbox One release, though, No Man's Sky is also set to receive a sizable update called NEXT that is going to add more features to the game, with rumors pointing to virtual reality support as a possibility. If the NEXT update brings No Man's Sky a little closer to the experience that was promised, it could help reverse the game's misfortunes.
The NEXT update will be a part of the Xbox One version of No Man's Sky at launch, so if the leaked June 29 release date is accurate, then those on other platforms should be able to expect it within the next couple of months.
No Man's Sky is available now for PC and PS4, and will launch for Xbox One this summer.
