No Rest For The Wicked is the latest action RPG game by Moon Studios, the creators of Ori And The Blind Forest and Ori And The Will Of The Wisp. The game focuses mainly on exploration, but the combat is great as well. Much like their previous games, Moon Studio's newest venture looks and feels polished, though some bugs are to be expected since the game is in Early Access.

For newcomers to the genre, the exact consequences of dying are a mystery. The game doesn't explicitly tell the player what happens, at least not before the first death. Here's everything you need to know about it.

What Happens When You Die In No Rest For The Wicked?

Surprisingly, the consequences of dying in No Rest For The Wicked aren't particularly harsh. The only effect players will feel is that the durability of all of their equipped weapon, armor, and tools will drop by a few points. This can easily be repaired by visiting the blacksmith and paying a small cost. The exact amount required for the repair depends on the durability level of the weapon at the time.

In short, players only need to worry about deaths when fighting against a boss to make sure that they don't end up destroying their equipment without realizing it. If the durability drops to zero, the equipment breaks and cannot be used until it is repaired.

Tools like pickaxes, woodcutter's axes, and fishing rods, etc., lose durability as you use them. They cannot be fixed if they break.

Since bosses typically need multiple runs to beat, sometimes taking dozens of attempts, it's important to keep your equipment's durability in mind. Other than the durability drop, there are a few quirks of in-game death that should be kept in mind when playing the game:

  • Killed enemies won't respawn after the player's death, at least not until a section of the game is cleared and new enemy types spawn in the previously cleared location.
  • Time doesn't pass when the Cerim dies. This means that enemies will only start to walk about after the player respawns. This fact can be used to bait enemies away from treasures or entrances and avoid having to kill them altogether.
  • Dying doesn't drop coins, resources, or even experience points. There is no loss other than durability points.

These details might change as new updates come out.
