Bethesda has announced that Oblivion Remasters has surpassed the nine-million player milestone, three months after its release. The same-day announcement and successful release of Oblivion Remastered proves that some franchises are big enough to find success without a traditional extensive marketing campaign.

From the moment it was announced back in April, it was clear that Oblivion Remastered was going to be a success. The project was long-rumored to be in development, and fans were excited to see what Virtuos and Bethesda had been working on when its existence was finally confirmed. For many, the extent of the remaster was a pleasant surprise, and it wasn't long before Oblivion Remastered sales were outpacing the original game.

Wisdom of the Ages in Oblivion Remastered appears simple but has more to it under the surface that makes it a defining The Elder Scrolls quest.

Now, in a post on X, Bethesda has thanked players after Oblivion Remastered passed the nine-million player milestone. The thanks went out to "everyone who emerged as a hero of Kvatch, mastered Arch-Mage, rose to Grand Champion, banished the Blackwood Company, gallivanted as the Gray Fox, and listened to the Night." It's a huge number of players, one that has only taken three months to amass. While Oblivion Remastered is already being outdone in concurrent players by Skyrim, it's still a very impressive achievement for the game.

Oblivion Remastered Hits Nine Million Players Milestone

However, it's worth remembering that this doesn't necessarily represent the number of sales for Oblivion Remastered. The game was released day one on Xbox Game Pass, which undoubtedly would have had a massive impact on the number of players paying to play. Unfortunately, nine million players were also not enough to stop recent layoffs at Oblivion Remastered studio Virtuos, either.

Following Oblivion Remastered, it remains to be seen whether any other of Bethesda's older titles will receive the same treatment. There are continued rumors about the possibility of a Fallout 3 remaster, which, given its close proximity to the original Oblivion, would make a lot of sense. It's not clear whether Virtuos would again be involved in any potential Fallout 3 remaster .
