With the release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, millions of players are jumping into the Third Era of Tamriel. For many, this remaster has been a joy to play, and seems to be serving as a great way to fill the void left by the long wait for The Elder Scrolls 4. It remains to be seen if more remasters like it are on the horizon, but if they are, then they will hopefully not just stop at Elder Scrolls. In fact, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered should pave the way for some of Fallout's earliest adventures to get a fresh coat of paint.

As of now, no one really knows when the eventual Fallout 5 will release. As players wait, they really only have multiplayer game Fallout 76 to turn to for new content. While this title can offer hours of fun, some fans may be looking for something different to jump into. Plus, given the success of the Fallout TV show, there may even be some new fans yearning to explore the wasteland. As such, now seems like the best time to deliver on some Fallout remasters.

Oblivion Remastered Should Pave the Trail for Fallout Remasters

Now is the Perfect Time to Explore Older Fallout Games

Just like with The Elder Scrolls 6, there is no release date in sight for Fallout 5. By the time Bethesda finally releases the next Elder Scrolls, the wait will likely have reached an absurd length of time. Luckily, there are numerous Fallout titles just waiting to be remastered, assuming Bethesda has interest in such an idea. And just like with Oblivion Remastered, they would serve as great ways to bridge the gap.

Not only could they help fill the void between game releases, but due to the aforementioned success of the Fallout show, it feels like this is the perfect time to capitalize on the brand. As of now, the show is one of the highest-rated video game adaptations out there, and even went on to get nominated for numerous Emmys. Amazon is currently working on the second season, which could lead to another fantastic adventure through the wasteland. However, there is no news on whether Bethesda has plans to capitalize on that popularity in the realm of games - though it would be a massive missed opportunity if it did not.

The Earlier Fallout Titles Deserve Their Time in the Spotlight

There have been rumors circulating about a Fallout 3 remaster, and while that would undoubtedly be great to see, it should not be the only entry to get a facelift. In fact, the original two games feel like the perfect candidates for a makeover. While neither were made by Bethesda, the franchise would not exist without them, and neither would the TV show. So, remastering them would be a great way to celebrate the IP's roots, while also serving as a nice treat for those that may have never touched the two classics before.

Of course, those original two games are vastly different from what players have today. They were still RPGs, but the look and feel of the games were nothing like Bethesda's entries. However, Virtuos was able to modernize much of Oblivion, so there is seemingly no reason it could not do the same here. As long as it maintained the heart and charm of these earlier entries, many players would likely flock to faithful remasters or even some bolder remakes.

Remastering the first two Fallout games may not be at the top of Bethesda's list of priorities, as it is probably focused on redoing its own entries first (if it even plans on releasing more remasters at all). But, if it does deliver on a Fallout 3 remaster, then the games that started it all should really be next on the list. And once that is done, there are a handful of spin-offs just waiting to be revisited as well.
