An Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered player came across a dangerous bug when attempting to close an Oblivion gate, leaving them stranded in the realm of Mehrunes Dagon. Following its surprise launch in April 2025, The Elder Scrolls fans have left glowing reviews of Oblivion Remastered for keeping much of the original experience intact. Virtuos accomplished this by running the game underneath a graphical overhaul made in Unreal Engine 5.
However, a major downside of this decision meant that many of Oblivion's original bugs have found their way to Oblivion Remastered as well. Coupled with technical bugs and performance issues introduced by the remake, many players are anxiously hoping that an Oblivion Remastered patch is on the way. Though instability and stuttering can wreck one's enjoyment of Oblivion, there is an old bug that can potentially ruin an entire playthrough if players aren't careful.
Oblivion Remastered: Essential Mods For Fixing Performance On PC
Here are some of the popular Oblivion Remastered mods that can greatly improve the game's performance.
As seen in mw3915's video, interacting with a Sigil Stone in Oblivion Remastered can cause the Hero of Kvatch to become stuck inside an Oblivion gate with no conventional way of closing it. While PC players can use console commands in Oblivion Remastered to get out of a game-breaking situation, console fans have no choice but to approach certain content with caution. It is not only recommended to save often, but separate save files should be kept before entering an Oblivion gate.
Oblivion Remastered Player Gets Stuck Closing an Oblivion Gate
The reason why this bug seems to occur in Oblivion Remastered is unknown, and unfortunately, it can also be triggered when trying to close mandatory gates (such as Kvatch or Bruma). As such, there is a non-zero chance that Oblivion players could break their entire playthrough if they're not careful. This issue has plagued the game since 2006, and has been most commonly reported by Xbox players. If players encounter the bug when activating a Sigil Stone in Oblivion Remastered, the best solution is to simply reload to an earlier save before entering the Oblivion gate.
While there is a chance that Oblivion Remastered mods will eventually fix these major game-breaking bugs, it may be a while until they get ported over into the remake. Another solution for non-mandatory gates involves completing the main quest, especially if players are still able to leave the Oblivion gate after bugging out. Despite the technical issues, Oblivion Remastered has managed to bring a new audience to Cyrodiil, as well as revisit what made the original title a Bethesda classic.
