Summary

  • A new Oblivion Remastered mod expands the Dark Brotherhood questline with over 100 repeatable contracts.
  • Mod adds Dark Tokens as new currency for rewards, allowing players to spin for random items.
  • Despite lacking official mod support, Oblivion Remastered already has over 2,600 mods available.

A brand-new Oblivion Remastered mod has considerably expanded the Dark Brotherhood questline, allowing players to continue participating in the murderous group's activities long after the storyline is complete. The Dark Brotherhood remains a highlight of Oblivion Remastered as it was in the original game, so it's cool to see it get even better.

Despite the fact that Oblivion Remastered doesn't officially support mods according to Bethesda, it was only a matter of time before the community got to work on creating new content for the game. According to Nexus Mods, the game already has over 2,600 mods released to the public, which is impressive given the fact that Oblivion Remastered isn't even one month old yet. It has some way to go before it matches Skyrim's 110,000 mods on Nexus Mods, but it's still very early days.

The Skyblivion team is invited to visit Bethesda in the wake of Oblivion Remastered's release.

The new mod in question is called "Dark Brotherhood - Infinitum" and can be found on Nexus Mods by user ColdTyrant. According to the creator, it adds "over 100 randomly selected, infinitely repeatable Assassination Contracts," with leveled gold rewards up for grabs for each target. These contracts are obtained from the Cheydinhal Sanctuary in Oblivion Remastered's Dark Brotherhood, with each one spread across the game's eight major cities. New NPCs will be generated for each contract, so players don't need to worry about accidentally killing someone important for another quest.

New Oblivion Remastered Mod Allows Dark Brotherhood Questline to Continue Forever

Completing any of the contracts in "Dark Brotherhood - Infinitum" also rewards players with Dark Tokens, a new currency created specifically for this Oblivion Remastered mod. These can be spent with the scamp Creeper, making a return from Morrowind, in what ColdTyrant describes as a "win-or-lose Bonus Reward Gacha System" where players can spin for random items. All in all, it's a fascinating expansion on the Dark Brotherhood, keeping the fun going for a while after players conclude its main storyline.

With the Oblivion Remastered modding scene already off to a flying start, it will be great to see how it develops going forward. Bethesda titles have always been kept alive by modders way beyond their initial launch period, with Skyrim still pulling in impressive numbers on Steam thanks to an abundance of community-made content. The potential for Oblivion Remastered is both enormous and obvious.
