Summary

  • Oblivion Remastered retains the original tone of the 2006 game while enhancing the graphics.
  • A video compares the new and old designs of Oblivion enemies, revealing how things have changed in the remaster.
  • Players appreciate the redesign of Frost Atronach, but some are not as happy about the new look of the Troll.

An Oblivion Remastered video has highlighted the change in design of Cyrodiil's monsters compared to the original game. When Oblivion launched in 2006, it was an instant success for Bethesda – selling over 3 million copies by January 2007. It catapulted The Elder Scrolls franchise into the mainstream and set the stage for Skyrim to become one of the most popular video games of all time. Oblivion Remastered, in a roundabout way, has tapped into the magic of classic Bethesda and became an even bigger success than the original title.

While it was a successful game in its own right, Oblivion wasn't without its flaws. After the strange landscapes and alien cultures of Morrowind, some fans found Cyrodiil rather dull by comparison. The leveling system struggled to keep up with Bethesda's first foray into world scaling, and many dungeons in Oblivion left a lot to be desired. While Bethesda addressed many of these critiques with Skyrim (and arguably with Shivering Isles), the team at Virtuos tried to keep Oblivion Remastered as true to the original experience as possible, making only a few key changes to combat and leveling.

Oblivion Remastered Players Are Getting Anxious for a Patch

Players are getting anxious about a new patch for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, since it could fix some issues they have with the game.

The same cannot be said for its graphics, as Oblivion Remastered boasts an impressive visual overhaul that made players see Cyrodiil in a new light. The iconic races of The Elder Scrolls have never looked better, and the idyllic landscapes of the Imperial heartland have given Cyrodiil a strong identity in the remaster. As seen in RedDeadRagdolls' video, even the many monsters of Oblivion were given an impressive upgrade.

Oblivion Remastered: Enemy Comparisons

One thing that Oblivion fans seem to universally agree with is that the Frost and Storm Atronach received a major glow-up. The Scamp, one of the lesser Daedra in The Elder Scrolls franchise, looks far more terrifying in Oblivion Remastered. On the other hand, players haven't been too impressed with the changes made to the Troll. Compared to the original model, the new design is considerably less mossy (thus worse at camouflage) and lacks a prominent third eye.

Overall, the changes have tried to maintain the tone of Oblivion, but made a few select improvements – as is the case with the Minotaur and the Scamp. For players who feel the design choices don't accurately reflect the original game, the growing list of Oblivion Remastered mods will have them covered. Despite the graphical improvements, a good number of Oblivion Remastered players have been frustrated with the game's technical issues, as the community eagerly awaits a patch from Virtuos and Bethesda.
