Oblivion Remastered players online are trying to figure out how many companions can be used simultaneously. The end result is a few Oblivion Remastered players who have a small army traveling alongside them throughout Tamriel.
Followers in Oblivion Remastered aren't quite what they became in future Bethesda games. In titles like Fallout 4 and Skyrim, companions have their own storylines and in-depth personalities that players can explore over the course of the game. Some of them can even be romanced. In comparison, the recruitment of Oblivion Remastered followers is more of an early proof-of-concept of what was to come. Some are temporary for certain quests, while others are nameless, hireable followers. Then, of course, there's the Adoring Fan. Oblivion Remastered remained faithful to how the original game handled these companions, for better or for worse.
The Elder Scrolls 6 is Likely to Miss the Same Opportunity as Oblivion Remastered, But It Really Shouldn't
Bethesda has developed a pattern over the releases of Starfield and Oblivion Remastered, but its one it needs to break in The Elder Scrolls 6.
As spotted by The Gamer, a thread started on Reddit by user jackshinobi23 inadvertently sparked a conversation about the maximum number of Oblivion Remastered followers players can have at any given moment. One comment by user DoctorOMalley says, "My record so far is five. Martin, Jauffre, the Jemane twins, and the Adoring Fan." However, based on other comments, it was clear this barely scratched the surface of what is actually possible.
Oblivion Remastered Players Are Putting Together Huge Parties of Companions
Another comment by Wisp1971 pointed out that Martin, Jauffre, the Jemane brothers, Erthor, Maglir, Amusei, and Velwyn Benirus are the only essential followers players can get simultaneously, pointing out that the "non essential followers die too quickly in this game to be bothered with." The problem with some of these followers is that they're related to Oblivion Remastered side quests, so any player who wants every possible follower has to be willing to put them on the back burner first. There are tons of non-named NPCs too, such as the Mage Apprentices, Dark Brotherhood Murderers, Knights of the Nine, the Four Everscamps, and more. A player willing to take the time to find all of these in the right order could theoretically amass a small army by their side.
The sandbox of Oblivion Remastered is why it's undoubtedly among the best Bethesda games. Whether it's trying to get as many companions as possible or finding a goofy glitch, all Bethesda titles offer a certain level of freedom, but there's something special about the jankiness of Oblivion Remastered's sandbox that elevates it above the rest. It's unapologetic in its faults, and it's hard not to love it. The fact that the remaster kept all of this intact from the original game is even better, and hopefully players will keep searching for silly things they can do for some time to come.
