  • The area is a mostly empty landmass.

Gamers can leave Cyrodiil in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, according to recent discoveries made by the community. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is a very faithful recreation of the original 2006 game, and it seems that some quirky aspects of the title, such as being able to leave Cyrodiil, remain in the newest version of the popular open world.

Oblivion Remastered was shadow-dropped earlier this week, and it quickly became a huge hit. The remaster consisted of a new version of the classic Bethesda game remade in Unreal Engine 5, but while staying true to its roots.

For players who have exhaustively explored Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered, these open-world games make for a great follow-up.

Now, a Reddit user called GnoblinXD made an interesting discovery: it’s possible to leave Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered. Normally, gamers are stopped by invisible walls when they try to leave Cyrodiil, but GnoblinXD discovered that it was possible to enter Valenwood by following along the Strid River from Skingrad to Kvatch. At some point, to the south of the Oblivion Gate in Kvatch, gamers can jump into the Strid River and then climb up the hills to reach Valenwood. As expected, the area is devoid of any actual content, but the whole landmass can be explored, and it consists of a huge area with plains, mountains, and more. I personally replicated GnoblinXD’s feat, using the same entrance to Valenwood, and can confirm that it works in the current version of the game.

How to Leave Cyrodiil in Oblivion Remastered

  • Walk along the Strid River from Skingrad, heading west.
  • Continue walking alongside the invisible wall until south of Kvatch.
  • At a specific spot, it'll be possible to jump into the Strid River.
  • Swim across into Valenwood, climb the mountains and explore.
  • Gamers are free to walk around regions such as Valenwood, but they can't load games saved outside Cyrodiil.

However, there’s a catch discovered by GnoblinXD. The gamer eventually headed west into the ocean, trying to enter the Summerset Isles, as there seemed to be a landmass on the horizon, but the water was not swimmable outside of Cyrodiil, and they fell into the void. It’s possible to save the game outside of Cyrodiil, but saves will not load. So, it’s important that gamers save before trying to replicate this, or they may lose progress.

This discovery shows just how faithful to the original game Oblivion Remastered is. As some old-school players may know, it was already possible to leave Cyrodiil using similar methods in the original 2006 title.

It’s fair to say that Oblivion Remastered was greatly successful, and part of the game’s popularity could be related to how it enhanced the classic experience without losing its charm. Bethesda recently revealed that Oblivion Remastered reached over 4 million players, counting Xbox Game Pass and sales, which is an impressive feat.
