The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered's Steam review score has recently fallen to "Mixed" due to several ongoing issues that have frustrated PC users for a while. When Bethesda Softworks shadow dropped The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year, it quickly became one of the most-played games across multiple platforms. However, the PC version had a rough launch and failed to meet many fans' expectations.
A few days after Oblivion Remastered's surprise release, it reached over 200,000 concurrent players on Steam, which was seen as an impressive feat. But the player count began dropping almost immediately, and by July, it peaked at only around 10,000. While this was often blamed on the game's short campaign, Oblivion Remastered has now hit an unfortunate milestone on Steam that has nothing to do with its story length.
Oblivion Remastered Player Count is Being Outdone by 14 Year Old Bethesda Game

Oblivion Remastered Players Aren't Happy with Its Performance on PC
The average score for recent reviews of Oblivion Remastered on Steam has dropped to Mixed, showing that many players are unhappy with the PC version. One of the main reasons behind the recent negative reviews seems to be technical issues like frame rate drops and extended load times. Some Steam users also claim the game ran better at launch, suggesting that later updates of Oblivion Remastered have only hurt its performance.
Frustrated players have also pointed out that it takes Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos a very long time to release patches. Although the last major updates arrived back-to-back in June and July, no further hotfixes have addressed the remaining issues. Some fans argue it's even unclear whether the team is working on another update or if Oblivion Remastered's July patch was the final one.
On top of its performance issues, Oblivion Remastered has also struggled with supporting community-created mods. Fans of the franchise know that a major part of its appeal comes from the expansive and creative modifications built by the community. Without this feature, Oblivion Remastered falls short compared to its peers like Skyrim, which thrive on mod support.
Oblivion Remastered's concurrent player count on Steam is currently at its lowest, peaking at only around 4,000 players. Many former Oblivion Remastered players have reportedly moved back to Skyrim, which many believe offers higher replay value and has been improved over time with the help of the modding community. With this decline, it remains to be seen whether Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos can finally resolve the issues on PC or if the game will continue to struggle on the platform.
