An Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered player was surprised to find that a rug they have in their own home is also present in the game. The odd discovery has amused the Oblivion Remastered community and stirred up some curiosity about the find.
Oblivion Remastered has been a big hit among gamers. Many Elder Scrolls fans never gave up their fondness for Oblivion, and having it back in a remastered form has delighted them. Others never went further back in the Elder Scrolls catalog than Skyrim until now, and discovering the differences between Oblivion and Skyrim has been interesting for those fans. While there's certainly a number of odd sights in Oblivion Remastered, chances are most players aren't expecting to find furniture or decorations from their own home in the game.
Nonetheless, that turned out to be the case for Reddit user nakanamaka, who discovered that the rug in their home is also in the game. The player shared a short video showing off the two, with the recording starting looking at the rug in-game, with the player then walking over to their real counterpart. While the in-game variant that can be found in Seridur's basement is quite filthy, the two rugs' designs are identical. The curious find has gotten the community talking.
Oblivion Remastered Players Muse on Matching Rugs
Several players have been amused and shared jokes about this find, teasing the OP as to how they managed to get to Cyrodiil, or that they should watch out for Oblivion gates opening up around their home, or simply referencing common memes from the game. However, some have also hypothesized as to why the in-game rug design is identical. Theories suggested include that the 3D artist responsible for the asset may have had the same rug in their own home, and based it off of that. Others suggested that it may have been a 3D scan done in Unreal Engine, which the remaster is built upon. However, The Best War Games verified that the rug is also present in the original release of Oblivion.
Curiously, this isn't the only instance of this happening in a Bethesda game. Previously, one gamer realized that they owned a table identical to one in Fallout 4. In Fallout 4's case, it's likely that the design was intentionally replicated, as the game has a retro aesthetic that heavily draws upon the real world's 1950s. Finding a modern-day rug in a mystical fantasy game like Oblivion, on the other hand, is a bit more odd.
