The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is one of the three best-selling games of 2025 so far, just two weeks after its release. Dubbed the "worst-kept secret in video games" for the past several months, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was subject to seemingly endless rumors and leaks in the lead-up to its official acknowledgment and subsequent release by Bethesda two weeks ago.

While officially named a remaster, many argue that this new version of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion looks closer to a ground-up remake, as its improved visuals have impressed longtime fans of the original 2006 game as well as newcomers to the beloved Bethesda RPG. Some say that for those who've never played the original, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered acts as an all-new Elder Scrolls game. All this praise is surely reflected in the game's impressive player numbers, as Oblivion Remastered saw four million players in its first three days, with nearly a quarter of a million concurrent players on Steam.

If Fallout 3 Gets the Oblivion Remastered Treatment, One Gameplay Update Needs to Happen

Fans have been clamoring for a Fallout 3 remaster for some time now, and if it ever comes, it will need to be joined by at least one big improvement.

Two weeks later, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has entered the top three best-selling new releases of 2025. According to industry analyst Mat Piscatella, Oblivion Remastered sits behind only Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows as the third best-selling game of the year. For comparison, Monster Hunter Wilds surpassed 10 million copies sold as of March 31, and, while Ubisoft has yet to publicly disclose Assassin's Creed Shadows' sales figures, the game had garnered three million players in its first week alone, a number that has likely grown since its March 20 release.

After just one week in market (w/e 4.26) Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Remastered is already the 3rd best-selling game of 2025 in the US ($ sales) trailing only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin's Creed: Shadows. Since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was released day one on Xbox Game Pass, it's not known whether Piscatella is including Game Pass downloads in the game's sales metrics. If not, Oblivion Remastered's appearance as a top three bestseller is especially impressive. However, it might be possible that its availability on Game Pass could be holding it back from soaring to even greater sales heights, as many would-be Game Pass downloaders would instead be looking to purchase the game outright. Nevertheless, with Oblivion only having been out for two weeks so far, it'll surely sell even more copies throughout the rest of the year.

2025 isn't even halfway over yet, so Oblivion Remastered's top three bestsellers spot could very well be challenged in the coming weeks and months. Perhaps the Game of the Year buzz surrounding Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 could be enough to boost it past Oblivion before the end of the year. Doom: The Dark Ages is also sitting on the horizon and could be in prime position to become a bestseller as well. Grand Theft Auto 6 would've almost certainly claimed the top spot if not for its recent delay to 2026. It'll be interesting to see which of these top three bestsellers will be able to hold on to their spots as 2025 continues.
