The recent release of Oblivion Remastered stands as one of the most memorable and impactful shadow drops in recent memory, with fans being equally as shocked as they were excited by the game's release on April 22. With the original Oblivion being considered as one of the best entries to the longstanding The Elder Scrolls franchise, the recent remaster always seemed as if it was destined for success, and it has already met these expectations.
Oblivion Remastered has been lauded for the way it maintains the beloved soul of the original while offering some stunning graphical improvements to the title, and there are some other aging releases that fall under the Bethesda umbrella that are deserving of a similar treatment. One benefit of Oblivion Remastered that is not so immediately obvious is the way it further tides the gap between the launch of The Elder Scrolls 6, and a faithful remaster of 2010's Fallout: New Vegas could serve a similar purpose for Fallout 5 while garnering the same level of hype and success.
Oblivion Remastered Players Want One Modern Feature Added to the Game
Gamers playing The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered come together to request that the developers add one modern feature of the popular RPG.
After Oblivion Remastered, a Fallout: New Vegas Remaster Seems Like a Guaranteed Hit
Discussions of an official remaster for The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion had lingered for some time prior to the surprising launch of the title in late April, with its rapid reveal and release leading to a storm of hype that gave the title an immediate presence within the industry. Oblivion Remastered smartly stays true enough to the original to lean into the nostalgic reputation of the game, while its new level of graphical fidelity and UI overhauls allow for a fresh experience for both new and returning fans.
Despite launching as a day-one title for the popular Xbox Game Pass service, Oblivion Remastered is the third-best-selling game of 2025 within the US, being a testament to the overwhelmingly positive sentiment that surrounds the title. Prior to Oblivion Remastered, much of the discourse surrounding The Elder Scrolls was centered around the lack of updates regarding The Elder Scrolls 6, despite the project being announced in 2018. Oblivion Remastered has given the franchise a new burst of life away from the question marks surrounding its next mainline release, and the Fallout franchise could be due a similar saving grace.
Bethesda announced that Oblivion Remastered reached over 4 million players just days after its release, further speaking to the positive reception of the title.
2010's Fallout: New Vegas often stands out as one of the most beloved and unique entries to Bethesda's other major RPG franchise, and with no real news currently circulating regarding Fallout 5, a full remaster of New Vegas could be an excellent way to ease many players during this wait. Of course, New Vegas was originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda, yet Bethesda would still have full control over the potential for a remaster in the near future.
New Vegas Could Still Maintain its Classic Feel Through a Remaster
Much like Oblivion, New Vegas gleans a lot of its charm from its now-dated feel, yet Oblivion recently proved how a fresh coat of paint can still be applied to such a beloved title without compromising the unique gameplay qualities that make the original stand out so much. Seeing the rugged landscapes of the Mojave Wasteland and the dazzling danger of New Vegas through a more modern lens would be an amazing way to breathe more life into such a defining entry to the Fallout franchise, and the cult-following of the original is surely a big indicator of the kind of traction that a remaster would quickly attract.
The timing of such a project could not be better given the confirmation that New Vegas will appear in the upcoming second season of Prime Video's successful Fallout TV show, potentially introducing a new wave of players to the world of the iconic title. While it may be some time before a remaster such as this could be released, Oblivion has recently set a clear precedent that a select few titles could realistically match, and not many Bethesda titles seem as deserving of a remaster as Fallout: New Vegas.
