Oblivion Remastered has several major factions and a few minor ones that players can join after completing certain side quests. The Knights of the Thorn is one such minor faction that you can join during the Wayward Knight quest. The quest involves helping out the heir of Cheydinhal, Farwil, inside an Oblivion Gate that spawned outside the city. The outcome of this quest will determine whether players join the Knights of the Thorn and the quest-exclusive rewards that follow.

How to Start The Wayward Knight Quest in Oblivion Remastered

Players must complete the Dagon Shrine main quest to start The Wayward Knight quest.

To start The Wayward Knight quest in Oblivion Remastered, players must travel to the city of Cheydinhal, located to the east of the Imperial City. Once you travel to its West Gate, talk to any of the guards inside the city about Cheydinhal, and they'll share the news of an Oblivion Gate opening up outside the city. This will start The Wayward Knight quest, prompting players to investigate the Oblivion Gate.

Next, you must exit Cheydinhal city through the west gate and keep following the quest marker till you arrive at the Oblivion Gate. You'll talk to another guard here who'll inform players that the heir of Cheydinhal, Farwil, has gone inside the gate to close it. So, players will need to enter the gate and team up with Farwil to close the Gate to Oblivion.

Helping Farwil Shut Down the Oblivion Gate Outside Cheydinhal

Once you enter the Oblivion Gate, keep following the path and eliminate any enemies along the way. You spot several Knights of the Thorn soldiers along the way; try looting them for any good items. Head through The Bowels and into the Realm of Oblivion to meet up with Farwil. After the conversation with Farwil ends, storm the castle and eliminate all enemies along the way.

Players must keep Farwil alive if they want to join the Knights of the Thorn faction and get unique weapons from Count Indarys. In case he dies, players must recover his ring to present to the count to complete The Wayward Knight quest in Oblivion Remastered.

Once inside the castle, keep following the critical quest path and try to eliminate all hostiles before Farwil jumps into combat. It's also important that players keep healing Farwil and his companion with restoration spells that have the "Heal on Touch/Target" effect, like Convalescence. Once you reach the Sigillum Sanguis, head to the upper level using the bone-like protrusions on the walls.

Once you activate the Sigil Stone on top, the Oblivion Gate will close, and everyone will teleport outside.

Joining the Knights of the Thorn & Getting Exclusive Rewards

The outcome and rewards of The Wayward Knight quest in Oblivion Remastered depend on whether Farwil escapes the Oblivion Gate alive or dies within. Here are all the rewards players will receive after talking to Count Indarys after closing the Oblivion Gate.

If Farwil escapes the Oblivion Gate alive, players will need to talk to him to become an honorary member of the Knights of the Thorn faction.
