Quality indie games can be difficult to come across, especially with the surplus of titles that seem to be coming out these days. It's no secret that indie games have been becoming increasingly popular over the years. However, it's noteworthy that a good amount of this attention started around 2005 when digital storefronts such as Steam were just starting out and another resurgence came to light around 2012.

Thankfully, the known release dates for games in 2023 have made it apparent that October is going to be a huge month for gaming. Several AAA games such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be making their debut, alongside a handful of titles curated by indie developers. Specifically, October 26 is the day to look forward to since there will be updates regarding the critically acclaimed game Dave the Diver and Mineko's Night Market.

October 26 Offers Two Heart-Warming Indie Games

Dave the Diver and Mineko's Night Market

October 26 is slated to be the highly anticipated Xbox and PlayStation release day for Mineko's Night Market, an adventure game from Meowza Games that has been in development for eight years. The title has been described as a social sim with similarities to both Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley, which should be of interest to cozy gamers. However, it's the wholesome narrative that seems to be the main draw for the game.

It's easy to see why Mineko's Night Market has garnered such an impressive crowd considering it markets itself as a game focused on "crafting crafts, eating eats, and catting cats." Story-wise, the titular character, Mineko, is tasked with discovering the secrets of the town and restoring it to its former glory while adjusting to her move from the mainland. On top of this, the strikingly colorful visuals are deeply inspired by Japanese culture and folklore which serve well to emulate East Asian night markets. Notably, as of September 26, Mineko's Night Market was already made available for PC and Switch users.

Of course, October 26 is also going to be a significant day for MINTROCKET's Dave the Diver. While the RPG has been out on PC since June 28 it has yet to make its debut for the Switch. Thankfully, it's already solidified itself as one of the best open-world games for underwater exploration which means that it's late October release date for the Nintendo-owned console will likely be well-received.

Dave the Diver's outstanding reviews are mostly thanks to the fact that the indie game is able to seamlessly fuse three different genres together to create an entirely unique experience. Not only are there elements of mystery surrounding the depths of the deep sea, which Dave explores by day, but he must also manage his local sushi restaurant at night. The tantalizing story also deals with Dave's own personal growth and relationships as he begins to feel the weight of more responsibility being thrust upon him.

Those who are patiently awaiting the Switch release should be happy to hear that its director, Jaeho Hwang, is fully focusing on optimization and a smooth gameplay experience. In a Dave the Diver interview with The Best War Games, he stated that the team is considering enhancing the UI for better compatibility which includes features such as controller vibration feedback.

As such, with under a month to go, Switch users should keep this release date at the forefront of their minds. It may be a relatively packed month, but Dave the Diver and Mineko's Night Market show that fans' indie libraries have some heavy hitters to look forward to as well.
