Amidst its latest membership survey controversy, Old School RuneScape is being review bombed by players. The community of angry players has managed to drag the recent reviews of Old School RuneScape down to "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam.

Over the years, there have been tons of controversial RuneScape updates. Methods of protest have ranged from canceling membership to mass in-game riots, usually held in popular locations like Falador Park. The RuneScape community certainly will not take controversial updates without a fight, but it's the fact that it has had to protest so frequently against unpopular Jagex business decisions that frustrates so many players. However, review bombing is a new tactic for RuneScape fans, one that other fanbases have employed over the last few years.

8 RuneScape 3 Quests That Should Be Ported To Old School RuneScape

There's no doubt that Old School Runescape players would love to see the following Runescape 3 quests in the game.

A look at the Old School RuneScape Steam page shows that fans are venting their anger at Jagex in various ways. While some are simply canceling their RuneScape memberships and not playing the game, others are leaving negative reviews on Steam, dropping the game's recent review rating to "Overwhelmingly Negative." In the last 30 days, just 17% of reviews have been positive, largely due to the ongoing RuneScape membership controversy, which was recently prompted by a survey put out by Jagex. Interestingly, despite this affecting both games, RuneScape 3 is currently at "Mixed" Steam reviews, with OSRS bearing the brunt of the review bombing.

Old School RuneScape Drops To 'Overwhelmingly Negative' Steam Reviews

It should come as no surprise that the reviews themselves are largely focused on the membership survey. Some terms that appear include "corporate greed" and "price gouging." The reviews are pretty representative of the RuneScape community's feelings right now. RuneScape is one of the oldest MMOs still online today, so it's likely it will come out the other side of this, but it's undoubtedly going to be a challenge for Jagex to win players over again, with that feeling of broken trust lingering in the community.

It's a shame that 2025 has started like this for Old School RuneScape. After a couple of years of refinements, 2025 could be the year that Sailing, Old School RuneScape's first new skill, is finally added to the game. Because of this, it should be a period of excitement for the game, but instead, the community is at odds with Jagex coming into the new year. This feels like a pretty unforced error from Jagex, too, which only adds to the frustration.
