Summary
- Use melee weapons early on in Once Human to save ammo and level up efficiently.
- Choose useful melee weapons like Camping Knife or Stun Baton for effective gameplay.
- Some joke weapons like Northern Pike offer fun but limited use due to sanity drain.
Once Human is primarily a survival shooter, and melee weapons take a bit of a back seat. That being said, in the early game, it isn’t worth wasting bullets on enemies that are a pushover, so it is more efficient to use a melee weapon up until around level 15.
Once Human: All Securement Silos, Ranked
Securement Silos are short, instanced dungeon adventures in Once Human that can be farmed for loot and currency. Not all of them are equally good.
Not all melee weapons are useful in this horror survival game, but there are a few that are worth carrying in the melee weapon slot of the player’s inventory. There are also some joke melee weapons in the game, such as the two fish weapons, and the stop sign that can be picked up from loot crates but not crafted.
6 Camping Knife
Basic Melee Weapon
- How to get: Blueprints looted from crates on the open-world map.
-
Specials:
- Upon hitting, there's a 33% chance to deal 1 instance of additional melee damage equal to 50% of the attack.
-
Suggested weapon mods:
- Melee Amplifier
Every player in Once Human will unlock the
Camping Knife blueprint very near the start of the game, and they can then loot additional blueprint fragments to upgrade the star level as well. It is a solid melee weapon for the first few hours of gameplay.
Once Human: Best Crops To Grow
Every crop that can be harvested in Once Human can also be grown by the player, but only a few are worth the effort. Here's what to plant.
Indeed, beginners to Once Human often run with just a melee weapon for the first part of the game, and the Camping Knife is ideal for this. It is a solid update over the machete that every player gets during the tutorial.
5 Northern Pike
Yes, It’s A Fish!
- How to get: Blueprint can be purchased from Margerie, the fishing vendor.
-
Specials:
- It’s insane.
- Each hit, at the cost of 5 sanity, deals blunt damage and increases psi Intensity by 5%, lasting for 3 seconds and stackable up to 5 times.
-
Suggested weapon mods:
- Melee Amplifier
Nobody can say that Once Human doesn’t have a sense of humor. Players who enjoy fishing in Once Human can unlock this blueprint by purchasing it from the fishing vendor, in exchange for certain fish.
Even though the Northern Pike is something of a joke weapon, it is surprisingly effective and does great damage. Unfortunately, the sanity cost means it isn’t really viable to use very often, as the player’s health bar will end up entirely wiped out by insanity. It is fun to use though, especially in boss fights.
4 Baseball Bat
Because Every Game Needs A Baseball Bat Weapon
- How to get: Blueprint unlocked via a memetic.
-
Specials:
- The first heavy attack hit deals damage, reducing the target's damage output by 30%, lasting 15 seconds. This effect does not apply to bosses and other meta-humans.
-
Suggested weapon mods:
- Melee Amplifier
For most players in Once Human who have progressed past the starting area, the
Baseball Bat will be their workhorse weapon until they can unlock some decent ranged weapon blueprints. Put simply, until the mid-game stage, it is hardly worth using a ranged weapon at all.
The Baseball Bat is not great for boss fights, as its special abilities will not trigger, but it can be used in a pinch if the player has decent armor. The same applies to PvP combat as well.
3 Long Axe
High Damage Axe
- How to get: Blueprints looted from crates on the open-world map.
-
Specials:
- Activates fortress warfare when performing heavy attacks. Can be activated once every 15 seconds.
- After a heavy attack hit, all weapons gain crit rate +10%, and melee swing speed +3%, lasting 10 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.
-
Suggested weapon mods:
- Melee Amplifier
The
Long Axe is the first truly useful melee weapon that most Once Human players will unlock. It is quite common to find blueprint fragments for this melee weapon in crates while completing POI.
Once Human: Best Shotguns, Ranked
There are a number of shotguns in Once Human that stand head and shoulders above other options. Here's how the best rank up.
The melee weapon works well for players who run a fortress warfare build with their main weapon, although it doesn’t synergize fully. Overall, though, this is a solid choice for a melee weapon for players who do not have access to the
Stun Baton yet.
2 Frozen Northern Pike
Yes, It’s A Frozen Fish!
The
Frozen Northern Pike is an upgrade over the Northern Pike melee weapon already covered. Yes, it is another joke weapon, but it does crazy damage (which is quite fitting) and does have a role in boss fights if the player needs to finish off the last part of a boss’s health bar.
The same problem exists, though, with the Frozen Northern Pike as the Northern Pike, it can’t be used frequently, due to the sanity drain. It is fun though.
1 Stun Baton
The Best Melee Weapon
- How to get: Blueprints looted from crates on the open-world map.
-
Specials:
- Light attacks and charges have a 33% chance to apply power surge when hitting.
- Hitting a target in a shock state with a heavy attack causes an additional 50% power surge damage to nearby targets.
-
Suggested weapon mods:
- Melee Amplifier
- Surge Amplifier
- Static Shock
- Shock Diffusion
- Shock Rampage
The Stun Baton is the only melee weapon in Once Human that can synergize flawlessly with a player’s primary and secondary weapon. It only works for players who run a power surge build, so it won’t work for everyone.
Once Human: Best Pistols, Ranked
Although most players use a pistol as a sidearm in Once Human, the best ones can be used as a primary weapon.
There are a few puzzles in this horror game that require a player to energize a target such as a generator. Hitting these targets with the Stun Baton qualifies for this, rather than having to unlock the EMP grenade recipe and craft some to use for these puzzles.
