There are a number of factors contributing to your damage output in Once Human. Apart from your weapon and the mods equipped on your gear, you also have to worry about ammo types, and these can seriously squeeze out some extra DPS for very little investment.
Making bullets in Once Human is pretty easy, but the game doesn't tell players how to actually swap the bullets you load into your weapons. While the process isn't terribly complicated, it's a tad bit inconvenient. Here's how to do it.
Once Human: How To Get Mail
The developers and system will often send players mail in Once Human; here's how to check it.
How To Change Ammo In Once Human
To swap ammo types, go to the Gear section of the character screen, then right-click on the gun you want to modify to enter the Weapon Customization screen. From this new menu, click on the Accessory tab. You'll see all the available accessory slots for your weapon here, and incidentally, it also includes a slot for ammunition. Always make sure you're using the best ammo available, especially when going on long raids in POIs like Brookham.
Click on the ammo slot to open a new menu on the right that shows all the available ammunition types for that weapon. If you have any of the other ammo types available, you'll see exactly how many rounds of each you have left. From there, just press F to equip your chosen ammo type, then you're good to go.
If you run out of one ammo type during a firefight, the game will automatically load a new type of ammo for you by default. This can be disabled in the Settings menu.
How To Unlock More Ammo Types
If you want the recipes for other bullets, you'll need to unlock them using Meme Points in Once Human. Go to your Memetics screen, then look for the Ammunition nodes in the Crafting section. From here, you can unlock up to the Tungsten AP tier of ammunition.
There's also a pretty decent chance of you getting stronger ammo types by opening ammo crates in areas occupied by human enemies like the Vultures and Rosetta soldiers. This isn't exactly a reliable way of getting more bullets, but it's something to keep in mind when you're clearing monoliths or POIs.
As of writing, the enemies around the facility leading to the Monolith of Greed in the Dayton Wetlands all drop
Copper Ingot when killed. This is a great spot to farm if you want to make tons of Copper Ammo. If you're making Copper AP Ammo, though, you'll still have to get
Stardust Source elsewhere.
