Free-to-play MMO Once Human has surpassed 10 million downloads globally and is celebrating the landmark milestone by gifting free rewards to players in a special event. Once Human is the first title from Starry Studio, a new NetEase Games subsidiary.

One of the hit survival titles of 2024, concerns over privacy in the Once Human EULA threatened to mar the game's launch. Since then, the dev team has explained the need for a government ID, and worked on server lag. Thanks to these efforts, the game continues to have a stranglehold on fans of the survival genre.

Announced on its official Twitter account, the game has reached 10 million global downloads in just over a month since Once Human launched on July 9, 2024. The game's popularity has kept it at the top of Steam rankings, increasing its reach for new players. Being a free-to-play title most likely impacted its success, allowing interested players with limited budgets to dive into the post-apocalyptic world. To celebrate the milestone, players can claim three free rewards in a special dedicated event. Starting August 18 and lasting until September 16, players can log into the game and head to the event page to obtain the following items:

  • x2 Butterfly's Emissary Crate
  • x2 1,000 Starchrom Crate
  • x100 Stardust Source

Players Rewarded Free Items to Celebrate Incredible Once Human Milestone

It is noted that the event will go live at various times across the servers. Players should check the event page throughout the day on August 18 if they didn't see it when first logging on. This event most likely ends when the large Once Human September update goes live.

With a focus on avoiding pay-to-win tactics, the items are meant to help players without drastically impacting the current game state. Starchrom is needed for Once Human's Wish Machine. Butterfly's Emissary Crates contain season-exclusive cosmetics along with other useful items. Stardust Source is used throughout the title for crafting and upgrades. All items can be earned through normal gameplay or participation in other events and season challenges.

With only a little over a month since release, there's been a large amount of content, events, and challenges released for players to experience. The upcoming update is said to add even more PvP and PvE events, keeping all players included in the game. More massive updates are likely to come in the future as Starry Studio continues to obtain feedback from the fan base and further optimize the title.

The apocalypse changed everything. Human, animal, plant… all are infested by an alien creature – Stardust. As a Meta-Human, you can survive the contamination and use the power of Stardust. Play alone or join others to fight, build and explore. When the world is in chaos, you are our last hope.


You wake up in the middle of nowhere. You'll have to brace yourself for the cruelty of nature (from monsters to lack of food); however, Stardust's influence does not restrict to living things, it also affects the soil and water. Eating polluted food and drinking dirty water will reduce your Sanity. When your Sanity drops, your max HP would drop accordingly. To eat or not to eat, it's a question.


Battle numerous enemies that are once human, and challenge bosses from another dimension to gain powerful items and ease Stardust pollution. You are not only fighting for yourself, but also fighting for the survivors.
