Once Human allows players to breed animals on their ranch, provided they meet certain criteria. Breeding animals is a great way to get a sustainable food source. You can raise animals for their meat, wool, or hides, which can be used for crafting and trading. There are a few different animals you can tame and breed in Once Human. A few examples are Ram, Rabbit, Deer, and even wild ones, like Bears and Wolves. If you’re not sure how, this guide covers the basics of animal breeding, including how to capture and tame them in Once Human.
Best Builds in Once Human
Here's a list of some of the best builds can use in Once Human, including all the important gear and mods needed for them.
How To Catch Animals For The Ranch in Once Human
Capturing animals in Once Human is a pretty straightforward process. To capture an animal, you'll need to reduce its health and then use a Tranquilizer Throwing Needle. The crafting formula for these needles becomes available once you've unlocked the Animal Capture memetic in Once Human.
When hunting animals, use weaker weapons to drain their health, instead of powerful weapons that may unintentionally kill them. You can also move the Tranquilizer Throwing Needles to the hotbar for easier access.
Once you have a Tranquilizer Throwing Needle, you can use it like any other throwable weapon. Since the needle takes time to travel to its target, you may need to get closer to the animal or wait for it to stop moving before throwing the needle to get a hit.
Successfully tranquilizing an animal will subdue it, making it ready to be captured in Once Human. You can add a tranquilized animal to your backpack by pressing F.
How To Tame Animals in Once Human
Once captured, you can now focus on taming the animal and prepare it for breeding. To tame a captured animal in Once Human, you'll first need to build a suitable enclosure to house the animal. A simple way to do this is to construct a square-shaped pen using Foundations and Parapets.
Next, add an Animal Trough to the makeshift pen. This will provide water and food for the animals, perfectly taking care of their everyday needs. You can get the crafting formula for the Animal Trough by unlocking the Animal Taming memetic in the Logistics tab.
If you’ve captured any aggressive animals, like boars or wolves, make sure to deactivate your defensive structures or they’ll accidentally attack the animals. Also, try to keep aggressive animals separate from docile ones, as they may start attacking each other.
All ranch animals in Once Human have a Tameness value that starts at zero. To increase this value, you'll need to feed the animal using the Animal Trough. To fill the trough with food and drink, simply interact with it by pressing F.
Each animal has a favorite food, so you need to plan ahead and gather the necessary food items for the animals you intend to breed. You can check the animal’s description to find their favorite foods.
How To Breed Animals in Once Human
Before they can breed animals on their ranch in Once Human, players need to craft a Youngling Hut. The crafting formula for the Youngling Hut is available once players unlock the Breeding Animals memetic. This memetic unlocks when the player’s server reaches a certain phase, and they’ve already unlocked the Animal Taming memetic.
Three conditions need to be met in order to increase chances of breeding animals in Once Human:
- The animal has a high Tameness level.
- The animal should not be a Youngling.
- There is a vacancy in the Youngling Hut Facility.
Make sure to enable the "Allow Breeding" option for the animal you want to breed in Once Human and keep an eye on the Remaining Breeding Chances regularly.
Once the above conditions are met, you can start breeding one male and one female animal. Animals in Once Human have different grades: C, B, A, and S. Grades decide how many traits the bred animal will get, and Grade S gives the most traits.
