In Once Human, players must gather resources and build gear to survive in a toxic world polluted by Stardust. Charcoal is essential because it is needed for both smelting ores and crafting advanced equipment. If you’re just starting out, there will be numerous instances where you'll need Charcoal.
Obtaining this essential element is fairly easy and involves gathering the required materials and setting up infrastructure. All you have to know is where to find them. Read on to learn more.
Once Human: Explore Refinery Pollution Point Guide (Mystical, Weapon, and Armor Crate Locations)
This guide will help players find all the crates that they must loot in order to complete the Explore Refinery Pollution Point quest in Once Human.
How to Craft Charcoal
Collecting logs is the first step in the process. These can be acquired by chopping down trees. One piece of Charcoal requires five Logs. Luckily, the regeneration time for trees is quick, so you don’t have to worry about waiting for long durations.
Naturally, trees are a source of wood. Furthermore, they’re also found in abundance in Once Human. Hence, it is advised to construct your base near trees to have instant (and abundant) access to wood.
Building a Furnace
To burn logs into Charcoal, you need a Furnace. To do so, unlock the schematic for a furnace in your Memetics menu.
Here’s how:
- Press K to get the menu for Memetics.
- Go to the Infrastructure Tab.
Here you’ll see the
Smelting Essentials branch. This will allow you to unlock the furnace schematic with Meme Points and Energy Links. Meme Points are earned by leveling up and completing season challenges, and you can gain Energy Links through commission or clearing the dungeon. To build a Furnace successfully, you’ll need:
-
20x
Copper Ore
-
30x
Gravel
Copper Ore is extractable from deposits that have a yellow tint. To get Gravel, crush the stones.
Producing Charcoal
Once your Furnace is up and running, load it with Logs to initiate Charcoal creation. When the process is completed, you must manually gather charcoal from the furnace’s queue menu.
Unlike other survival games, you must gather Charcoal from the Furnace’s Queue Menu manually. Failing to do so will result in you losing a valuable item.
Tips for Efficient Charcoal Production
For efficient charcoal production in Once Human, consider the following tips:
- Collect Logs Regularly: Trees grow back rapidly, so collect logs regularly. This ensures you never run out of wood for charcoal.
- Upgrade Tools: Purchase tools like a Pickaxe and Chainsaw by using the Meme Points you have collected. These will help you accumulate wood much faster.
- Use Deviations: Some deviations will help you automate resource collection. One example is the logging beaver, which can gather wood for you and save you time and effort.
