Summary

  • Developers of Once Human are aware of the game's server issues, increasing capacity limit to address long queue times.
  • Mixed player reviews highlight concerns over personal data security and cosmetic purchases in Once Human, with the server issues adding to the criticism.
  • Despite a recent server outage, the development team is working quickly to resolve issues and compensate affected players.

Developers of free-to-play survival game Once Human have acknowledged long queue times and other server issues and are currently working to fix them, even among an apparent complete server outage. Once Human made its debut on July 9, though major issues with its servers didn't come to a head until July 13.

Currently available only for PC and mobile devices, Once Human launched to mixed reviews from players. While it seems to have quickly built up a large player base, amassing more than 18,000 reviews on Steam in a span of just four days, players have expressed reservations ranging from fears over personal data security to issues with how Once Human handles cosmetic purchases. This has resulted in only 64 percent of players giving the game a thumbs up before the server issues even took place.

Posting on the game's official Twitter account, the developers stated that they had become aware of long queue times on some servers. In response, they have increased the capacity limit to allow more players to access servers simultaneously, though they noted that doing so could result in other problems, such as resources becoming unavailable on maps and players being unable to expand their Once Human territory. One potential solution offered by the developers asked players to switch over to less-populated servers until queue times could be reduced.

Once Human Seemingly Suffers System-Wide Server Outages

However, within minutes of that post from the developers, multiple other Twitter users were reporting that all servers appeared to have gone offline, and at least one person responding to the post noted that season progress in the free-to-play game didn't seem to be tracking correctly either. Some players even reported that their characters had seemingly disappeared from the system entirely, with one questioning, "What do we do if our character is just gone? Like, almost 29 hours of progress just seemingly gone."

The developers have been working quickly to address these issues, however, and just 15 minutes after its original post reported they had localized the issue and had begun repairs. There has been no word on whether players' characters have actually been wiped from the system, but the development team has promised some unspecified compensation rewards for players affected by the outage after the repair is in place. The development studio behind the game, Starry Studio, has shown a strong commitment to addressing player concerns about Once Human, and the team encourages players to continue reaching out to its official social media accounts to report any further issues.

The apocalypse changed everything. Human, animal, plant… all are infested by an alien creature – Stardust. As a Meta-Human, you can survive the contamination and use the power of Stardust. Play alone or join others to fight, build and explore. When the world is in chaos, you are our last hope.

You wake up in the middle of nowhere. You'll have to brace yourself for the cruelty of nature (from monsters to lack of food); however, Stardust's influence does not restrict to living things, it also affects the soil and water. Eating polluted food and drinking dirty water will reduce your Sanity. When your Sanity drops, your max HP would drop accordingly. To eat or not to eat, it's a question.

Battle numerous enemies that are once human, and challenge bosses from another dimension to gain powerful items and ease Stardust pollution. You are not only fighting for yourself, but also fighting for the survivors.
