Once Human's bestiary includes a wide range of Deviants, from basic zombies to shady military men and alien-looking monsters. The more formidable enemy types are known as Great Ones, heavily mutated creatures that are much stronger than their lesser brethren. The Shadow Hound is one such enemy, and it can prove to be a challenge for new players.
As its name suggests, the Shadow Hound is a dog-like monster that's several times larger and deadlier. It's going to take a lot of ammo and upgraded weapons in Once Human to take this boss down, but more importantly, you'll need to know how to avoid its attacks if you want to come out of the scuffle alive.

Players who are looking for areas with polluted water in Once Human can find a map that highlights four contaminated locations in this guide.
How To Beat Shadow Hound In Once Human
Out of the previous bosses (maybe apart from Arachsiam), Shadow Hound is bound to give solo players the most trouble. It's a big beast with sweeping melee attacks, intimidating attacks, and a super move that deals massive damage if not prevented. If you're fighting this boss for the first time as part of the main quest, you'll likely be underleveled. Thankfully, there are some ways to level up quickly in Once Human, such as completing commissions or doing side quests .
On Normal mode, The Shadow Hound mostly attacks by charging at players, spitting projectiles, vacuuming them into an explosion, and firing a death laser from its mouth. You can avoid these by doing the following:
- Melee attacks: Stay far away and sprint to the side when the Shadow Hound starts to wind up. Only roll away when it comes too close.
- Spit attack: Dodge toward the Shadow Hound. The spit attack comes out in a fan shape, which means you still risk getting hit if you dodge sideways.
- Laser attack: Sprint backwards or dodge to the right.
- Vacuum move: Sprint away and spam your dodge roll.
Shadow Hound's weakspot is its inner mouth. However, the boss doesn't reveal it until you burn through the first segment of its health bar.
After the fight drags on, the Shadow Hound will enter an invulnerable state, and after a short while, it instead gains massive damage resistance. When it enters this phase, shoot the two mouths on its shoulders. You can also shoot the Duskorbs that the Shadow Hound spawns when it enters this state, giving you a bit of extra breathing room.
Shortly after you shoot its mouths, the Shadow Hound will leap into the air and turn into a big, black mass of swirling energy. If you let it roil in the air, it'll eventually unleash a massive attack that can one-shot most players. You can actually shoot the Shadow Hound down while it's in this state — every hit will deplete the white bar below its health. When the bar is empty, the boss will fall from the sky and harmlessly flop around the ground when it lands, giving you ample time to deal free damage. Hard-hitting guns like Once Human's SOCR Outsider can take advantage of moments like this extremely well.
Repeat this cycle of dodging and attacking, and the Shadow Hound will eventually fall. Once it does, you can spend Controllers on the victory chest in the middle of the arena to get some items. The Shadow Hound's loot pool includes the Fabled Muramasa, a legendary katana with a unique moveset.
